7 Content Marketing Tips for 2017

Every time you face the statement “content is king” you might ask yourself:

“Is content really the king as being told around?” or “How to create the content that brings traffic to my website?”

Before giving you a detailed response to these questions I must say Content Marketing has always been one of the most powerful and resultative strategies for marketers and businessmen. The reason why it still has power is very simple – people always need to enrich their knowledge in various niches. However, the only way to share the knowledge is to create content.

Practice shows that it becomes harder and harder to create high-quality and engageable content with every year. There have been lots of experimentations with tactics and strategies to apply. Some of the methods have approved themselves; the others have not. Some techniques seemed to be useless, the others were as useful as hell.

Thus, eventually, you might think “what techniques are in-demand in 2017” and “how to create content that Google loves?”

Well, I am going to reveal you some tips you should use in your Content Marketing strategy during this year. Before you’ll get the answer to your first question on why content is king, I want to give you a detailed response on how to create content that will definitely bring traffic to your website.

Let’s begin.

1. Discover What People Would Like to Know About

If you want to attract more people on your resource, you must know what content they’re willing to see on your website. It doesn’t matter what niche you represent; the matter is to find key topics you should stick to.

I suggest you read brand-new articles that are relevant to your niche and pay attention to topics that are discussed more often. If your website already has some audience, you should try to create some inquiries, call your users to comment your content, share their thoughts about it (even negative ones). Such technique will help you to find out what your audience would like to know about!

You must understand – when someone reads your post, he or she wants to find some solutions for themselves. If you help them with finding answers to the questions, they will put a word for you via sharing your content on social media.Afterwards, it will turn into traffic for your website.

2. Search for New Ideas and Never Be ‘Off-Side’

Let’s presume you already know what your audience would like to read about on your blog. However, it still isn’t clear how the topic for your future article should sound.

In this case, you will have to search for fresh ideas throughout the internet. I agree with you that it seems ridiculous because you will have to sift through dozens of articles and might still don’t know what to write about. Likely, I would like to introduce you a few cool tricks on how to always be able to find ideas for your future posts (even if you write almost every day).

Evergreen content. I hope you know what I’m going to talk about. Yes, topics that are always in trend. Yeah, you might think “there is a bunch of topics that people like, which one I should choose?”. And I will reply you  – orientate to link-worthy content. This content will never be out of play. Afterwards, the only thing you will have to do is to improve it making it better. Thus, resurrecting some old stuff, you won’t have any problems with making new topic up and you will definitely know that this article will get an exposure. In other words, you will use a technique named by Brian Dean as skyscraper one.

Quora. I believe everyone knows this place. If you have never visited it before, you should do it. Quora is the place where people ask questions and get answers. This way of getting information might be your source of getting new ideas. Let me clear up how to find ideas for the future posts:

As you can see you can choose the niche left column (‘Feeds’) where you can find what you need. Or you can make a request using a searching box. I clicked on ‘Blogging’ and Quora suggested me the list of questions people are interested in. You can see a few interesting questions that could be transformed into topics:

The question “Could you make $2000 a month as a full-time blogger?” we can paraphrase in the topic like “How to Make $2000 a Month as a Full-Time Blogger”.

The question “I just started a blog. How do I write a good blog post, and also build traffic?” might be paraphrased in the following topic “How to Write a Good Blog Post Even If You Have Just Run Your Blog”.

This is the way I advise you to use Quora in terms of finding new blog post ideas.

Ahrefs Content Explorer: This tool is pretty good in discovering fresh ideas for the posts. You might think how it is possible to do but don’t worry, I will explain you in a few words. Target on particular keywords that are relevant to your niche and ask Content Explorer show you the results:

If you, for instance, are interested in blogging, Content Explorer will suggest you top content according to your inquiry. Moreover, you can request to get the freshest content with the help of choosing the date. You can already see a few great examples of topics for your own content. Let’s try to paraphrase them a bit:

Content Explorer suggests you “Incredible Tips And Tools For Business Blogging” and you can turn it into something like “Business Blogging: Tips You Should Apply in 2017”. Considering the second suggested post “5 Advanced Blogging Tips for More Traffic, Emails, and Revenue” you can paraphrase it into “10 Tips for Bloggers Who Want to Get More Traffic”. It goes without saying, that I suggested you rough titles for the articles but I believe you got a clue on how to take advantage of Ahrefs Content Explorer for producing new content ideas.

Try Yourself in Creating Various Types of Content

I am sure nobody likes to read the same type of content all the time. Someone prefers to get information reading detailed in-depth guides, the other doesn’t like wasting his or her time on such content. Lots of people got used to reading articles that offer reviewing the tools or services. To sum up tastes differ…even in content users get.

If you want to create an attractive blog, I highly recommend you to pitch it up with the following types of content as:

“How-to” articles

Very useful type of content! It allows you to introduce the reader whatever topic you want. Just share your experience and give pieces of advice on some subject you want to introduce. This kind of content is a perfect place for adding various images, diagrams, videos etc. Remember, you can highlight any topic you want and it will always be highly sought because you want to tell your readers “how to do something”.

“Lists”

Never neglect of posting “lists” type of content on your blog. I told you above about those people who don’t like reading long articles – they need to get to the point at once! Introducing people a list of tools or services, you should be laconic and always try to provide your readers with pros and cons of tools you’re writing about.

“Review”

There are lots of users who like to read some review on a particular service or tool before buying it. You can play the card! However, you will have to work with the service you want to introduce more diligently.

Case study

Yeah, perhaps, this type of content is the hardest one to create. It takes lots of time to write it in contrast to other types of content I mentioned above. Despite the fact that your article might cover some technical aspects of a survey you want to introduce, you should always try to write it as like an interesting story. I believe no one likes reading content that is overfilled with numbers, technical terms, and expressions. I recommend you to be more friendly writing case study and you’ll see your readers will love it!

What else can I add? Well, try yourself in each and every type of content and don’t be afraid of posting it on your blog:)

4. Don’t Procrastinate with Offering Your Content Other Bloggers (Even If It Isn’t Written Yet)

For those bloggers who have a kind of posting schedule, it is important to adhere to it. Therefore, it doesn’t even matter whether you have already written your article or have not. Your main priority should be finding web resources that accept guest posts.

Yeah, you can find blogs that accept guest posts using Google but it is a bit time consuming and inconvenient. Anyway, if you love work with Google search, here is how to find guest post opportunities:

Use the following phrases to find opportunities in Google:

  • Blogging (another keyword you need) + write for us
  • Blogging (another keyword you need) + submit a guest post
  • Etc.

However, I prefer to find guest post opportunities using Twitter. I believe this way is much more convenient and resultative than Google search.

Use the same steps as you do during the work with Google search.

The next step is sending a guest post inquiry. Please, don’t think that it is as easy as a pie. No, you shouldn’t rush with the message. You must discover the blog you want to offer your article first. Pay attention to:

  • What topics the particular blog accepts
  • Are guest posts commented/shared on the blog
  • What domain rating a website has
  • What the level of organic traffic is
  • Etc.

These metrics will hint you whether this blog worth your time, efforts, and, actually, your piece of content or not. Moreover, check out if there is any “guest post” guideline to get familiar with on the blog. It might help you to send the message that has a right structure.

When you will be ready to reach a blogger out, don’t send him or her your article in a very first message. Just introduce the topic you want to write about and a short plan of what you’re going to highlight in it. If the blogger approves the topic you offered, it means he or she won’t refuse you in publishing it in the future! Otherwise, the blogger will leave some comments on what he or she wants to see in your article. Thus, you will be able to take into account mentioned comments and improve your post. If you can see that the blogger would be happy to publish your material, you can send it over to him or her:)

5. Use extra tools for writing the content

Even if you are a skillful writer who has already written dozens of posts, you should use additional services to polish your writing. I don’t want to wound your vanity but every living being has a bad habit to get tired of some work. The same happens to writers who lose their attention after spending a few hours (or the whole day) in front of the screen typing words, phrases, sentences. Likely, there are tools that will help you avoid making grammar and lexical mistakes. I, personally, use only 3 services:

Grammarly: This brilliant service helps you fix all grammar mistakes you might make during writing the post. Especially, it is must be used by non-native speakers.

Hemingway Editor: Awesome service that works online. It helps you create the article keeping it a pure English language.

Titlecapitalization: Don’t know how to capitalize titles in your article in a proper way – use this very tool.

6. Don’t Forget About Backlinks

This section is going to be short and consistent. I am sure you know that when some well-known bloggers link to your own material, it increases your position in Google. Unfortunately, it isn’t always as easy as it seems to be mentioned in some famous blogger’s article. Nevertheless, you must never give up in this “backlinks” chase!

I advise you to start linking to some powerful resources in your own articles. Afterwards, try to do some outreach and build business relationships with influencers in your niche. These influencers might link to your stuff and it will increase traffic to your blog. Just try to make your art of persuasion more advanced (just kidding) 🙂

Anyway, if you need some tricks in terms of link building, then have a look this noob friendly guide.

7. Share Your Content via Social Media

Don’t think that if your article has been published, thus you will get the traffic you deserve. No, no! Don’t be so naive! You will get the traffic when your content will find recognition among the readers throughout the internet.

I am sure you already have accounts on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ at least. If you have not, then go ahead and create them. Build connections in the world of social media; follow the influencers from your niche, comment the material they post and try to pitch them your content for publishing on their blogs. If some of these influencers approve your content, the audience will get a notice about you right after your article will be published. It means you will get the traffic you deserve.

Conclusion

Summarizing, I would like to say that these tips are only a few elements of the entire Content Marketing strategy you may apply. And it is up to you whether use them in your own practice or not. However, I want to encourage you that you won’t regret doing so.

It is time to reply to the first question whether content is king or not. I believe you have already noticed that the major part of Content Marketing is based on content. Without it, you won’t gain the results you want.
