elizaCould you share a bit about yourself with us?

Hey, I’m Eliza from from the awesome city of Michigan. I was always a science geek and I love to figure out how things work. I also love swimming, and have won a few medals and junior events back in the day. Most people associate technology with the menfolk, but I’ve always been inclined towards the technological side of things. Another thing I’ve always fancied myself doing was writing. I think I picked this up from mom, who was an English teacher but loved to write in her spare time.

What was going through your mind when you found out that you’d won?

Well I was ecstatic to find that I’d won the award and that’s a huge understatement! I refused to believe it when I initially read through it, but then it slowly began to sink in. It was a very joyful feeling! I’d like to dedicate this to my parents and especially my mom who believed that I always had it in me to write on things that I loved about.

How much of a help is this scholarship award of $1000?

I’m not just saying this because I won it, but scholarships worth this much are a huge help when you consider the costs of education prevalent in America right about now. Most of the people I knew had to make compromises on the school they wanted to join only because they weren’t able to afford it. Thankfully, I was able to win this and ease the burden off my folks’ shoulders as well.

Any thoughts on the test that you would like to share?

I loved the questionnaire! It was focused on the issue at hand but left enough room so people could exhibit their skills for writing. I had a great time answering them and I think it was intentionally made so by the amazing writers they have at the company. The questions felt natural and like they really wanted to know about what I thought about an issue rather than just for the sake of asking a question.

What do you think about the difficulty of finding scholarships in the US?

To be really short and to the point, getting a scholarship is pretty challenging for the students. The thing is, if you don’t find a scholarship chances are that you are going to need a huge loan to cover the costs. Education costs are through the roof these days and most students are saddled with huge loans even before they graduate. This is the sad state of affairs here.

What were your options to add more to your college funds?

Well, my friends and I were mostly stuck with part-time jobs. These don’t pay well and you’ll also have to miss a lot of classes to make these jobs work. If it were up to me, I would skip it in a heartbeat to take more classes that would add more value. And this scholarship has allowed me to do just that. I’m really thankful to iDigic for making this possible and hope that many other students just like me find the opportunity to craft their own future!
