Competitive social media platforms used to be really competitive. They were fighting to build their user bases and unless they were owned by the same company, they offered no way for people to easily promote their accounts on other apps.
Things have changed. Some platforms (although certainly not all) provide users with the ability to link their accounts to competitors’ apps, allowing them to quickly boost their social media presence.
TikTok is one that’s made it simple.
Why Link Social Media Accounts?
For TikTok users who want to efficiently “spread their wings” on other social apps, there are many benefits to linking accounts.
- Cross-Promotion: Your followers on one platform may not even be aware that you have other social media accounts. Promoting your TikTok content on Instagram, for example, lets people interested in the videos you create find you on TikTok and become part of your follower base there. (It can work the other way around, too, helping to send TikTok users to your Instagram account.)
- Increased Visibility and Reach: Linking social media accounts boosts the number of people who will see a user’s posts, providing invaluable exposure for content creators.
- Exposing More Aspects of Your Online Presence: TikTok users may know you primarily for your short videos. IG users may know you for your photos or Reels productions. Linking accounts allows those who follow you on one platform to see more facets of your creative personality.
- Branding Power: Linked accounts give you a consistent presence across social media, enhancing the brand image you want to create online.
Linking Your Instagram Account to Your TikTok Account
Do you have a minute? That’s all it takes to link your accounts on the apps.
- Open your TikTok profile page by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your screen.
- Click the “Edit profile” button in the middle of the page, find “Links” on the list of options, and tap “Add.”
- Click “add” next to Instagram, enter your IG login information, click “Log in,” and you’re done.
For maximum benefit, you can do the same thing to link your TikTok account on the Gram; you just have to already be logged into TikTok so you can copy and paste the TikTok URL into your Instagram profile.
And while you’re at it, why not link your TikTok account to YouTube and Lemon8? It’s done from the same screen you used to link to your Insta account.
