A TikTok Term That’s Far From Innocent: Bubble Gum Pink

2 min read

References you might see in TikTok posts to the color “bubble gum pink” could seem innocuous.

The content creators might be describing an adorable paint they found for a child’s bedroom, the color their t-shirts have taken on after accidentally being washed together with their kid’s stained clothing, or the appearance of a new flavor at the local ice cream shop. It’s easy to imagine that “bubble gum pink” was used in scene descriptions for the hit “Barbie” movie, too.

Unfortunately, none of those references are likely to be the meaning of the term when it’s used in TikTok videos or comments.

When you see or hear the phrase “bubble gum pink” in TikTok content, it’s almost meant to be offensive, obscene, and a sign that you should hit the “Report” button, sending the post or comment to TikTok moderators for removal and possible penalties.

Don’t read on if you’re squeamish.

What Bubble Gum Pink Means on TikTok

There’s no easy way to put this, so we’ll just come out and say it.

The vast majority of TikTok users who use the term “bubble gum pink” are referring to the color of young girls’ genitalia.

The phrase is sometimes used to inquire about or describe the physical appearance of adult women’s genital regions, at best indicating a preference for shaved private parts and (pardon the expression) “tightness.” At worst, it’s used to imply pedophilic meanings, preferences, or desires.

The use of the term in comments about adults’ TikTok posts or appearances is offensive, needless to say. However, the phrase is also seen in comments posted on innocent videos showing children and even babies — making it a clear violation of TikTok’s Terms and Conditions. Some could even argue that it’s a criminal sexual offense.

When the phrase “bubble gum pink” is used on TikTok — unless it’s included in a clearly inoffensive context to describe a cute color — it should immediately be reported to the social media platform’s moderators.

It’s the responsibility of all users to help the app enforce its rules that ban harassing, bullying, and sexually offensive behavior. Hitting the “report” button (found by tapping the sweeping right “Repost” icon next to the post or comment) is the best way to do your part to keep TikTok a safe environment for everyone.
