A TikTok Trend That Keeps Gaining Popularity: Dirt Bike Girls

2 min read

Does it seem that you keep seeing TikTok posts showing girls riding dirt bikes?

It’s not your imagination. The topic has been trending on the social media platform for several years, and TikTok users’ interest in “dirt bike girls” keeps increasing.

The TikTok videos showcase female riders’ skills and experiences while enjoying the activity. The majority are posted by users documenting their exploits while riding their own dirt bikes, but many others are shared by other people who simply admire the riders.

What’s the app’s fascination with dirt bike girls? Let’s explore.

“How to Ride a Dirt Bike” Videos on TikTok

We’ve been seeing a larger overall trend over most of the last decade: TikTok content focused on female empowerment.

More and more videos show girls and women participating — and excelling — in sports that have historically been male-dominated. Football, hockey, and rugby are just some of the sports that have brought female athletes into the fold, as participation and spectating have both grown in large numbers.

Even though dirt bike riding is generally a recreational activity more than a spectator sport, an increasing number of women are also participating in motocross and supercross racing. That’s provided even more encouragement for young girls who are interested in riding dirt bikes at an early age, just as their brothers have done for years.

The trend of female riders posting videos showing their experiences, and others creating “how-to” tutorials for girls interested in learning to ride, illustrates the growing interest in the activity among female users. The posts are often accompanied by hashtags like #DirtBikeGirl and #MX Girl (“MX” is a common abbreviation of motocross), and many record millions of TikTok views.

Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, it’s not only female bike riders who post these videos. Some are created or reposted by male admirers of the women’s skills and techniques, others are shared by TikTok users who support female empowerment — and admittedly, some are contributed by men who find it sexy when women ride dirt bikes.

To each their own, particularly if it’s in support of a laudable goal!
