About 34 million videos are posted on TikTok every day. Only a small number of them become popular, and most are only seen by the content creator’s followers.
There are many ways to attract audiences on the social media platform, but the best approach is to build a devoted TikTok follower base. That means making sure that most of the people who happen to find your TikTok post are impressed enough to become one of your fans.
Producing compelling, “must-watch” TikTok content is the first step. Making videos that are as high-quality and professional as possible is the second. And a great way to produce pro-level content is to use transitions between scenes.
TikTok makes it easy to do, right in the app’s on-board editor.
How To Do Transitions on TikTok
It doesn’t matter whether you’ve just paused between thoughts while recording, have taken a break to move to a different location before resuming, or have uploaded several external videos to combine into a single TikTok post. Inserting a smooth transition between the scenes gives the production a professional look that makes it easier to follow and more enjoyable to watch.
This is how to create a smooth transition on TikTok. This example assumes you’re recording two separate thoughts for your video, and pausing between them.
- Record your TikTok video. Between your thoughts, pause the recording by tapping the red “Record” button, and restart it when you’re ready by hitting the button again (which turns grey during the pause).
- Tap the checkmark to move to the Editing screen.
- Click the “Effects” icon (two stars) on the right-hand menu.
- Toward the bottom of the Effects screen, you’ll see a scrolling menu bar. Choose “Transition.”
- Above the menu bar, there’s a timeline that corresponds to the video you recorded (which is displayed at the top of the window). Move the white bar to the spot in the video where you want to insert your transition.
- Tap the transition effect you want to use from the selection at the bottom of the screen. If you want to exaggerate the transition, double-tap.
- Your video — with the transition — will now play. Click “Cancel” to choose a different transition, or if you’re satisfied, click “Save.”
- You’ll be taken back to the Editing screen where you can do any other work you’d like (like adding sounds or filters) before publishing your post.
You can insert as many transitions in your video as you’d like, and the process works the same way if you’re changing locations or working with imported content.
Transitions may seem complicated when you’re surfing your TikTok feed, but they take just seconds to add to your videos and give them an entirely new, professional look.
