Have you ever wondered why some people’s TikTok videos show where the content creator was posting from — but yours don’t?It’s only because they know how to add their location when they upload their TikTok content, but you haven’t learned how to do it yet.
Location information isn’t crucial for a video to earn a large audience or even go viral; in fact, many TikTok users prefer to stay under the radar as much as possible.
It can often be desirable, though. Letting the TikTok algorithms and other users know where you’re posting from may boost your content’s exposure to viewers in the area. If you’re a business, an individual who’s active in your community, or you’re producing videos designed to appeal to people in your region, that extra visibility can be invaluable.
Want your posts to show your location?
How To Add a Location on a TikTok Post
No feature that lets you include your location automatically, but it’s simple to do when uploading your content.
- Open the app and tap the “+” sign to begin creating your video.
- Record (by clicking the red “Record” button) or upload (by tapping the icon to the right of the “Record” button) your content. When you’re done, hit the red checkmark or “Next” button to reach the upload page.
- In the middle of the screen, you’ll see a “Location” option. Several humorous suggestions will appear underneath it, but click on “Location” instead.
- You can then choose one of the suggested locations or enter your location in the search bar. If you want more specific locations to choose from, enable “Location Services” on your iPhone settings or “Location” from your Android settings, and give TikTok permission to access your location.
- Finish posting your video.
Simple, right? It’s just as easy to add your location to your TikTok profile.
If you have a Business account, just visit your profile page, tap “Edit profile,” and click “Business info.” You’ll be able to include your address or general location there. If you have a Creator (personal) account, you can add your location to your TikTok Bio.
Adding location to a post or bio may not be the right choice for everyone, but it’s another great way to personalize your TikTok presence and make you more approachable and relatable to potential followers and customers.
