You never know when TikTok may need to contact you.
- You might have lost access to your TikTok account because you forgot your password, you lost your phone, or your account was hacked. Reps from the social media platform have to confirm your identity through email before restoring your access.
- You may have enabled two-factor authorization via email for account logins.
- TikTok may need to notify you of a security breach or suspicious activity on your account.
- You may have other account changes that need to be made, and they can’t be completed until you confirm that you’re the rightful account owner by responding to a TikTok email.
Needless to say, you can’t respond to an important message from TikTok if you’ve moved to a new email account without notifying them.
Changing your email on file with the app isn’t hard, but there’s an important roadblock many TikTok users run into: you have to confirm the change from both email accounts before it can take effect.
If you forget to make the change in your TikTok settings before giving up your old email, you’ll have to deal with support reps directly, and the process becomes much more difficult and time-consuming.
It’s crucial that both your old and new email accounts are active when you’re ready to update your TikTok contact information — so the smart move is making the change as soon as you set up your new email account.
Here’s how to do it.
Changing Your Email on TikTok
This should only take a couple of minutes to complete.
- Open your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom of your home screen.
- Click the “Menu” icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your profile page.
- On the popup window that opens, click “Settings and privacy.”
- Select “Account” from the Settings menu, and then choose “Account information.”
- Tap “Phone number,” and then select “Change email” on the popup.
- You’ll receive a verification code in your old email account. Copy and paste the code into the TikTok window that opens.
- Now, enter your new email address, and you’ll receive another verification code in the new email account. Copy and paste it into the TikTok window.
You’re all set! Just remember to make the change as soon as possible. If you can’t receive the first confirmation code because you’ve already dropped your old email account, you’ll wish you’d taken this simple advice.
