Can You Delete TikTok Comments?

Everyone’s had conversations or text exchanges in which they made a comment they regretted — and quickly wished they could take the words back. In real life, and we’re including texts sent on your phone in the “real life” category, something can’t be unsaid once it’s been said. You’re out of luck, and it’s time for damage control.

Comments on TikTok videos, though, can immediately be removed. They’ll have only been seen by people who happened to read the post’s comment section before the offending remarks were taken down. Unlike words spoken thoughtlessly, your TikTok comments can be made to disappear forever.

It’s also difficult to anticipate the types of comments your TikTok content may trigger. You can easily be surprised by personal attacks, nasty responses, spam, or gibberish posted in your comment section. Those TikTok comments can also be made to disappear instantly.

How do you delete comments on TikTok? Read on.

Removing Comments on Your TikTok Posts

Fortunately, TikTok allows you to easily delete any comments you find offensive, unnecessary, or detrimental to the conversation your video might receive. Here are the steps to take.

Deleting Individual Comments on Your Post

As soon as you know that an offending comment has been posted:

  1. Bring up your post on the app and tap the “Comments” icon (three dots in a speech bubble).
  2. Press and hold a comment you want to delete until a popup window appears.
  3. If you only want to delete the comment you chose, tap “Delete” and confirm.
  4. If you want to delete more than one comment, tap “Manage multiple comments,” then choose the ones to remove and click “Delete” at the bottom of the comment window.

It’s smart to be proactive before posting on the app, though.

You can manage who is allowed to comment on your posts, require your approval before comments go live, or filter comments to prevent certain words from appearing. Do that by going to your TikTok profile, opening the menu by tapping the three horizontal lines at the top right, and then navigating to Settings and privacy > Privacy > Comments.

Deleting Comments You’ve Made On Someone Else’s Video

This process is even easier.

  1. Find the post you commented on and tap the “Comments” icon.
  2. Scroll to your comment, and then press and hold it.
  3. You’ll be asked if you want to delete the comment. Confirm, and the comment has been removed.

Wouldn’t it be nice if real life worked this way?

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think

TikTok’s terms and conditions and Community Standards prohibit content that includes nudity (or implied nudity), sexually suggestive or explicit material, and non-consensual intimate imagery.
