Can You Hide TikTok Likes So People Can’t See Them?

Likes are a key interaction tool on TikTok (and most other social media platforms). They’re also extremely valuable currency for influencers and content creators, since widespread visibility for TikTok videos depends largely on the number of likes and other engagements the videos receive.

Naturally, there are also “psychic rewards” to building lots of likes for TikTok posts. Seeing that type of approval for your content makes you feel good about the time and effort you put into creating it, as well as the growing popularity of your TikTok account.

Not everyone who likes a video wants that fact known, though.

They might jealously protect their privacy and content preferences on the app. They might not want others to know that they’ve liked videos that aren’t otherwise popular, or they may feel more empowered to react authentically to content when they know that their video engagements aren’t visible to other users who know them.

Unfortunately for those people, thumbnails of every video that they’ve liked can be seen by the people who visit their TikTok profile pages and check out their content grids.

Is there anything they can do to make their likes invisible? There sure is.

How To Hide Likes on TikTok

Privacy-minded readers might think that making their entire TikTok account private would hide all of their likes. It doesn’t work that way, though. When you have a private account, any followers you’ve approved can still visit your profile and see which videos you’ve liked.

Whether you’re private or public on the app, you still have to take a separate action to hide your likes.

  1. Open your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen.
  2. Click the “Menu” icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your profile page.
  3. Choose “Settings and privacy” from the popup window.
  4. Tap “Privacy” on the next screen, and scroll down the menu until you find “Liked videos.”
  5. Click that link and choose between three options: “Everyone,” “Followers,” or “Only you.” The “Only you” choice makes your likes completely private.

Hiding likes may not be the right approach for those who love to engage with other users, but the option is always available for people who fiercely protect their privacy and anonymity on TikTok.
