TikTok filters are an essential tool that content creators use to perfect the visual quality of the videos they produce.
Filters can make dark videos(or people) look bright and cheerful, give content a more vintage or modern look, make it look like it was shot at sunrise or sunset — essentially, TikTok filters change the brightness, hue, and saturation of a video’s colors and give creators control over the aesthetics of their productions.
(Many TikTok users confuse filters with effects; effects provide the more dramatic, crazy, and fun visual tricks that make videos more flashy, distinctive, or bizarre. Filters are more subtle and useful for artistic purposes.)
You can choose a filter to add to your TikTok content before you record it or during the editing process. You can add both a filter and an effect, too. But what if you want to combine two filters to fine-tune the video to get the exact look and mood you’re shooting for?
You can. Here’s how.
Using Two TikTok Filters Simultaneously
There are two ways you can combine filters to give your TikTok video a more unique appearance than other highly-produced content on the app.
Method 1:
- Get ready to record your video in the Create screen by tapping the “+” icon at the bottom of your home screen and choosing the maximum length of the recording (15 seconds, 60 seconds, or 10 minutes).
- Before starting to record, tap the “Filters” icon (three circles) in the right-hand menu.
- Choose the first filter you want to use (you’ll see it applied immediately so you can be sure you’re happy with it).
- Tap the big red “Record” button to record your video. When you’re finished, click the red checkmark.
- You’re now in the Editing screen, where you can again tap the three-circle icon and choose the second filter you want to use. It will be applied on top of the one you chose before recording.
- Do any other editing you’d like, tap “Next,” and upload your video.
This approach is best if you already know the two filters you want to use.
Method 2:
- Record your video and apply the first filter in the Editing screen.
- Apply any other effects or edits you want to make, save the video as a draft, and download it to your phone or device by opening the draft and tapping “Save.”
- Open the Create screen a second time, but don’t record. Upload the draft you just saved by tapping the “Upload” icon that’s to the right of the “Record” button.
- Tap “Next,” apply your second filter, and move on through the process to post the finished video.
The advantage of this approach is being able to see what each filter looks like as you apply it and make changes as needed. It can also be used as often as you like to add three or even more filters to your video.
Part of the fun of creating TikTok content is experimentation. Filters (and effects) give you the ability to shoot a video and turn it into many, very different forms. They say no two snowflakes are the same; by using unique combinations of filters and effects, you can make sure that no one else’s video looks like yours.
