Anyone who’s spent much time on TikTok (or on other social media platforms) has seen this type of video: a highly-produced collage of photos backed by the perfect song. It’s natural to think that the TikTok post was created by someone with tons of video editing experience and a great feel for effective production.
You’d be surprised. The editing tools available on the app make it simple for any TikTok user to upload a selection of pictures and let the system create the video collage. It will also select appropriate music for you, although you can override that choice and substitute your own TikTok sound.
Best of all, the process takes just a few minutes as long as the photos you want to use are already saved on your phone. Here’s how to do it.
Making a TikTok Video with Pictures and Music
When you’ve become proficient at producing TikTok content, you can create even more elaborate videos without needing the app to do most of the work. Doing it this way though, isn’t just easy; it will also make you look like you’re already proficient.
- Open the TikTok “Create” screen by tapping the “+” icon.
- Click the “Upload” icon to the right of the white “Record” button (it may show an image saved on your phone).
- A new screen will open, showing all of the photos and videos on your phone’s camera reel.
- Choose each photo you want to include in your video by tapping the small circle at the top right of its thumbnail. Be sure to pick them in the correct order you want them to appear in the collage; as you choose each one, a small number will show inside the circle, indicating its place in the video. You can’t choose the order afterward.
- You can now produce your video in two different ways.
– Tap “Next” at the bottom of the screen. The pictures will be uploaded and put into a simple collage template, and the app will choose music that it thinks will fit with the content. All of TikTok’s editing tools will also be available.
– If you’d rather choose your own template, click “AutoCut” instead of “Next,” and you’ll have a selection of templates you can try out (previews will show above the template menu). - When you’re satisfied with the video, you can change the TikTok sound chosen by the system by tapping the “x” next to the song title at the top of the screen, and then clicking “Add sound.” You’ll have an enormous number of sounds to choose from.
- Hit “Next” to move on to the “Post” screen, where you can add a description, hashtags, and make other choices about viewing options.
- Tap “Post” and your finished TikTok video, with pictures and music, will be uploaded.
Doesn’t it feel great to be a TikTok production whiz?
