TikTok is often the best social media platform for businesses to utilize when they want to build their online profile, reputation, importance, and revenue. The majority of the app’s 2+ billion users are Gen A, Gen Z, and younger millennial consumers, the ideal audience for companies trying to appeal to those age groups.
It’s easiest for those companies to maximize their TikTok presence with a business account. It gives them access to a large suite of advertising and marketing tools, a robust Ad Manager allowing them to create and manage campaigns, a huge commercial music library to use in videos and ads, and advanced audience analytics not available to individual TikTok users.
When you sign up for a TikTok account, you are automatically given a so-called “Creator” account, designed for individuals who want to watch and make videos. Companies that get onto the app have to switch that account to a business account — which, thankfully, is easy to do.
How To Create a TikTok Business Account
The first step, of course, is joining TikTok and being assigned a creator account. Here’s what to do next.
- Open the app and visit your TikTok profile by tapping on the “profile” icon at the bottom right of the home screen.
- Open the profile menu (three horizontal lines) at the top right of the profile page.
- On the popup window that appears, choose “Settings and privacy.”
- Tap on “Account.”
- On the Account menu, choose “Switch to Business Account.”
- Select the business category that describes your company and industry.
That’s it; there’s no need to fill out forms or submit paperwork. Anyone can switch to a business account on TikTok with almost no hassle. If you sell or discontinue your business, you can easily switch back to a creator account from the same Account menu where you created your business account.
There is a third type of TikTok account as well, called an “Organization” account. It’s designed for large companies and non-profits that have a large number of employees who all need to use the account at different access levels. Organization accounts can only be created in the TikTok Business Center, and aren’t associated with Creator accounts or individual details.
