We’ll start with the bad news. No, you can’t quickly delete all of your TikTok videos from the social media platform (unless you’ve only created one or two of them).
That’s by design. The app has never had a single button you can tap to remove all of your TikTok content, and no one has ever explained why. It’s safe to guess, though, that many of the platform’s 2+ billion users would accidentally hit the button and deep-six all of their videos by mistake. TikTok’s policy prevents those errors — and the inevitable complaints that would follow.
Here’s the good news: it’s still possible to delete all of your TikTok posts. It just might take you a while.
Why Remove All of Your Videos?
TikTok users who want to delete every video they’ve uploaded to the app may have different motivations.
- They could be changing the topic and focus of their TikTok account, so they want to remove content that won’t appeal to their new target audience.
- They might want their account to look more professional, and don’t think their old content fits that mold.
- They may have applied for a new job (or are looking for a new romantic partner) and are afraid their old TikTok posts might reflect badly on them. Related: their videos prominently feature an ex, and they don’t want content showing them as a couple to live on.
- They could have realized that the videos they’d posted in the past no longer reflect their current values and approach to life.
- They might have decided that they need to take more steps to protect their online privacy.
Of course, they could delete their entire account, but that would also mean deleting their follower base and losing touch with old and new friends they’ve connected with on TikTok. They could also change from a public to a private account, but that would deprive them of other functions on the app they find valuable.
For all of these people, deleting just their videos might be the better choice.
How To Delete All of Your TikTok Videos
Unfortunately, the TikTok policy we’ve discussed means that you have to go through and remove each video individually.
- Open your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the home screen.
- Tap on the thumbnail photo for the first video in your content grid that you want to delete.
- The video will open full-screen; tap on the three-dot Options icon on the right of the screen (just three dots, not three dots in a circle).
- Scroll the bottom pop-up bar that appears until you see “Delete” with a trash can icon. Tap it, confirm, and the video will be gone. (You can restore it from the TikTok Activity Center for 30 days.)
OK, that takes care of the first post. Now, you’ll have to go through and do the same thing for every other video in your content grid.
Deleting everything you’ve posted to TikTok is a drastic action, and that’s why you have to go through a laborious process to do it. The time it takes to delete videos one by one will give you time to re-think your decision — and stop before all of your content is gone.
Pro tip: download your old videos to your device before deleting them. Having a content library that you can restore will save you if you have second thoughts about cleaning out your account after you’ve started.
