Does TikTok Limit How Many Accounts You Can Have?

4 min read

Many questions we hear about TikTok have both a simple answer and a more useful one. We’ll start with the simple answer to this question.

There’s no official limit to the number of TikTok accounts you can have. In fact, the social media platform tacitly encourages TikTok users to have both a personal and a business account if they would be posting those different types of TikTok content.

There are other good reasons to want more than one account.

You might own several businesses with separate social media presences and identities. You might want one account for your family to see and another that focuses on the more grown-up fun you have with friends. Content creators could have multiple accounts that focus on different topics. Or you might just want a backup. TikTok has no problem with any of those approaches.

However, you might find it difficult to juggle multiple TikTok profiles if you don’t understand how the system works and the rules that govern account setup.

Here are the details.

Rules and Best Practices for Owning Multiple TikTok Accounts

You’re not violating TikTok’s terms and conditions if you open numerous accounts on the app. The devil, however, is in the details.

  • You can only use an email address or phone number to open one account. If you want multiple accounts, you need different emails or phone numbers for each one. You must use different TikTok usernames too, of course.
  • You can only have three TikTok accounts logged in at the same time on one device. If you want to keep more than that active at all times, you’ll have to use multiple devices like a phone and a laptop.
  • Only the latest versions of the app support the ability to easily switch between accounts on the same device.
  • The TikTok algorithms are on the lookout for people who open multiple accounts so they can spam other users or repost the same content on all of their accounts to boost engagement. Violators can be penalized or banned.

In other words, there’s no limit on the number of accounts you can have, but you have to be smart and careful about using them.

How To Switch Between TikTok Accounts

If you want to add a new account and be able to switch between them, the easiest way to do it is by opening the new account from your existing one. Following this process will also let you see one of the ways you can switch from one account to the other.

  1. Go to your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the home screen.
  2. Click the menu (three horizontal lines) at the top right corner of the screen and choose “Settings and privacy” from the popup window.
  3. Scroll down and click on “Switch account.”
  4. Once you have a second account, this is one place where you can switch between them. For now, you can set up a second TikTok presence by tapping “Add account” and signing up for the new account.
  5. If you want to add a third account, you can use the same procedure.

The easier way to switch between the accounts you’ve set up on the same app is to just tap your username on the profile page. That will show you the accounts you can access.

Want more than three accounts? As mentioned above, you’ll have to open them on different phones or devices with a different TikTok app. That could even be a good idea if you’re using just two or three accounts. Here’s why.

Many professionals who manage more than one account prefer to have multiple devices open simultaneously to different TikTok accounts. That allows them to quickly notice and respond to notifications on any of their profiles without having to switch between them to check for activity they might have missed.

Other people juggling lots of accounts rely on third-party software. There are a number of options that are designed for creating and managing multiple TikTok accounts — while keeping It could be worth looking into these software solutions if you need more than a couple of accounts on the app.
