TikTok users who don’t spend much time online, and people who know very little about the app, may think that dance and lip-syncing videos are the only types of content that trend on the social media platform.
They couldn’t be more wrong.
TikTok content focusing on virtually any topic can start trending and even go viral, and there may be no better example than a subject that’s repeatedly become a big deal on the app: how to fold fitted sheets.
Most of those who have lived adult lives — or have been told by their mother to “fold the sheets” while growing up — know how difficult the task can be. Uncounted millions simply pay lip service to properly folding fitted sheets, or they just roll them into a ball, rather than waste their time trying to make the sheets look nice and neat.
In 2020 and 2021, a deluge of TikTok posts purportedly showed the best way(s) to get the job done. Like many other activities that became popular during that period, the time that people had on their hands during the pandemic was probably the cause of the “fitted sheet trend” on TikTok.
Nevertheless, the topic trended repeatedly and still reappears today.
How to Fold a Fitted Sheet Videos on TikTok
A user calling herself “Laundrytok” (real name: Melissa Dilkes Pateras) is widely credited with starting the trend. She’s known for posting numerous, funny TikTok videos showing methods of folding fitted sheets; her most popular demonstrates the difference between the ways “lesbian and straight ladies” go about the task.
Other popular content creators like “AtHomeWithBryan” got into the action, as did bedding manufacturers like Britain’s Yorkshire Bedding. “Ordinary” users contributed their own videos to the trend, some with hilarious outcomes. And since nearly everyone has struggled with fitted sheets at one time or another, the content struck a chord and kept going viral.
How Do You Fold a Fitted Sheet?
The TikTok video that has received the greatest approval for its method of folding fitted sheets suggests this approach to what can seem like an impossible task:
- Put your hands into the two top corners of the sheet.
- Flip the right-hand corner inside-out and tuck it into the left-hand corner.
- Lay the top of the sheet on the bed and do the same with the two bottom corners.
- Pick the sheet back up, with one of the two corners you’ve “created” in each hand.
- Flip the right-hand corner over the left, and fold the sheet twice to wind up with a flat rectangle.
