How Do I Block A TikTok User? The Three Dots Are Gone!

3 min read

If you’re fortunate, you can go years or even longer without having to block anyone on TikTok.

Influencers and prominent content creators are often targets on the app, though, and they may be forced to block difficult or malicious users on a regular basis. Fortunately, it takes them just a few seconds to use the block feature to prevent a problem user from seeing or commenting on their TikTok content, sending them DMs, or interacting with them in any other way.

“Ordinary users” who use the social media platform primarily to scroll through their feed for entertainment may never run into harassers, bullies, spammers, scammers, or other annoying people who make life on TikTok difficult.

If you’re lucky enough to be in the second category, you might still occasionally want to block someone.

  • You may find that someone’s content that you find disturbing or simply not interesting keeps appearing on your feed. Blocking the user can not only stop that from happening, but it will also send a message to the TikTok algorithms that you don’t want to see that type of content.
  • You may have had a falling out with an ex or friend. Blocking them can keep them from contacting you and prevent their TikTok content from showing up as you navigate through the app. (You can always unblock them if you have a change of heart.)
  • You may be protecting your privacy, but you keep receiving repeated TikTok follower requests from someone you have no interest in knowing. Blocking them stops them from sending more requests.

If it’s been a while since you’ve had to block anyone, you’ll probably go to the other user’s TikTok profile, look for the “three dot” icon that took you to the “block” option — and find that the three dots aren’t there anymore.

What do you do next?

How To Block a User on TikTok

No worries; you can still block someone directly from their profile. Here’s the problem you’re facing: TikTok changed some of its icons in 2023, so if you haven’t blocked anyone in a while, you wouldn’t have realized it. You just need to know where to go from there.

Instead of the “three dots” on the problematic user’s profile page, look for the “Share” icon at the top right of the screen. Tap it, and you’ll see the “Block” icon in the bottom row of the popup window that appears. Click it and you won’t be bothered by the user anymore.

Here’s one more feature that can be helpful if you’re being harassed by numerous people in the comment section of one of your TikTok videos: you can block them all at the same time. Open the comments, tap on one of the problem ones, and you’ll see a popup that lets you choose “Manage multiple comments.”

Click all of the users you want to block (maximum of 100), select “More,” tap “Block accounts,” and finally confirm by tapping “Block.” They’re all gone from your TikTok world.

No app is perfect, but TikTok does a very nice job of providing users with the ability to pretend that multiple TikTok accounts no longer exist. Don’t hesitate to take advantage!
