TikTok is widely believed to be the best social media platform for building a large and influential fan base — but there are some TikTok users you may not want to follow you. You might not want to see their content on your TikTok feed, either.
Some are cyberbullies who harass people on their posts, and others are “superfans” who won’t stop DMing or posting annoying comments. There are spammers, scammers, and even stalkers who can make the TikTok experience difficult to enjoy, as well as content creators whose videos you may find uncomfortable, distasteful, or even offensive to watch.
Thankfully, there’s a simple way to prevent someone from interacting with you or seeing your posts. It also makes sure that content from problematic users won’t show up on your feed.
Here’s what to do.
How to Block a User on TikTok
All of the issues we’ve just mentioned can be cured by blocking users who are causing issues. The only task that might be a little difficult is locating the TikTok profile of the person you want to block.
If you remember their TikTok username, you can easily find their profile by using the app’s search function. Otherwise, find one of their posts or comments and click on their username.
When you see the user’s profile, hit the “share” icon (an arrow) at the top right of the screen. A new window will pop up with the “block” button in the bottom row; just tap it and exit out of the window. You won’t see the user’s content anymore, and they won’t even be able to find your account even if they search for you. You’ll essentially be invisible to each other.
The blocked user won’t receive a notification so they have no way of knowing that they’re on your naughty list. They’ll probably suspect it if they search for you and can’t find you, but they can only be sure if they’ve DM’d with you in the past and the conversation disappears.
There’s just one issue you might run into: TikTok only allows you to block a maximum of 100 users. If you try to block someone and can’t, you might have reached your limit. Once you unblock someone else, though, you’ll be able to add the problem user to your blocked list.
How to Unblock a User on TikTok
Unblocking someone isn’t difficult, but it’s slightly more complicated.
- Click the “Profile” icon at the bottom of your home screen.
- Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your profile.
- Select “Settings and privacy,” then “privacy” on the next screen, and finally “blocked accounts” at the bottom of the final screen you see.
- Find the account you want to remove from your list of blocked accounts and tap “Unblock” next to their username. That’s all there is to it.
If they haven’t blocked you, you can also unblock someone by finding their TikTok profile, tapping the “share icon,” and then choosing “Unblock user.” Either method works just as well.
Blocking users also removes them from your TikTok follower count, which reduces your visibility and importance on the platform. If your overall goal is growing your TikTok fan base and importance, you might want to check out iDigic’s follower growth services elsewhere on our site.
