TikTok has more than two billion users, and the vast majority spend their time on the app scrolling through their feeds to find and watch entertaining or informative videos.
TikTok feeds move quickly, though, meaning you may never see the same content twice. What if you see a post that you love, and you want to be able to watch it again later or show it to your friends or family members?
You have several choices.
You can bookmark the post, making it easy to quickly find the video later. You can forward the post to people you think will enjoy it, or repost it on your TikTok account. Those options will usually do the job, unless the people you want to share the video with aren’t on social media, or the content creator decides to delete the post or block your account for some reason.
At that point, you’re out of luck — unless you’ve saved the video to your device.
Downloading a TikTok video puts it into your collection permanently, allowing you to view it or share it whenever you’d like. And it’s a simple process that takes just seconds.
How To Save TikTok Posts
First, of course, the TikTok post you want to download must be displayed on your phone. Then, look for and click the “share” arrow located near the bottom right corner of the screen. That will bring up a new window with the “Save video” icon located in the bottom row.
Tap that icon, and the video you want to download will be saved on your phone’s camera roll. (The first time you download you may have to allow the app to access your phone’s photo function.) You’ll also see options that let you save to Google Drive, share with friends on TikTok or other apps, or send to yourself or others by text or by email, depending on your other apps.
As long as the content creator hasn’t prohibited the download of their posts, your chosen video should be available in your camera roll for viewing or sharing whenever you’d like.
You’re on a laptop or desktop instead of a phone? No problem; just right-click on the vid you want to save, choose “download video” or “save video as,” and the post will be saved to your hard drive.
What About That Pesky TikTok Watermark?
Every video downloaded from TikTok has a hard-to-see watermark embedded by the app. It’s even there on your own content that you’ve uploaded, and there’s no simple way to remove it.
If having a “clean” version of a TikTok video is absolutely necessary, you can find third-party download tools online that allow you to strip off the watermark, but beware. Posting another content creator’s material elsewhere or using it for purposes other than personal enjoyment, with or without the watermark, violates copyright law. Be careful.
