How To Get Voice Effects On TikTok

You can add all sorts of things to your TikTok videos to make them stand out; filters, trending music and sounds, and captions are just a few. One of the best ways to make people stop and pay attention to your post, though, is to add voice effects.

The app’s editing function lets you alter your voice (other peoples’) to sound like almost anyone or anything you can imagine. Among the many options are effects that make it seem that you’re using a megaphone, talking after inhaling helium, or speaking in a deep baritone or bass voice. You can make your voice sound like a chipmunk, a robot, or other characters, too.

Voice effects can even replace your dialogue with similar sounds supposedly generated by a flute, an old-fashioned synthesizer, or a cat. The right voice effect can make your video funnier and more entertaining, boosting engagement with your content and convincing viewers to follow you to see more of what you produce.

How Do You Add TikTok Voice Effects to a Video?

The process of using TikTok’s voice effects is simple. The most important thing to know is that you have to do your editing in the right sequence, or you won’t have access to the effects.

  1. Record your video on the app.
  2. Choose any video effects that you want to add to the vid. Just be sure that no sounds are added by a video effect you select. When you’re satisfied, tap the checkmark at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Click the “voice” option (in some areas, it’s called “voice editing”) on the right-hand edit bar. You may have to scroll down to find it; it’s represented by a microphone icon.
  4. You’ll see a pop-up with a huge number of alternatives for altering your voice. When you tap one, you’ll see a preview of your video with your chosen audio effect. When you’re happy with your selection, click “Save.”
  5. Add any other filters, captions, or other video effects and sounds you’d like, hit “Next” to complete your post, and tap “Post.” Your content will appear with the desired effect.

Troubleshooting: Why Don’t I See the Voice Effects Option?

There are several possibilities.

  • You added a sound (or a video effect with sound) to your video before trying to access the voice effects menu. Your voice can’t be changed if there’s other audio on the clip.
  • You’re editing video that wasn’t shot in the app immediately before editing begins. Voice effects can’t be added to previously saved or imported videos unless you use a separate third-party editing app.
  • You’re trying to edit a Stitch or Duet. These TikTok features already have sounds on them, so you can’t use voice effects on them.
  • You’re using an old version of the app. Upgrade to the latest TikTok version and you should be fine.

With a little experimenting, you’ll be a pro at putting voice effects onto your video. It’s easy and fun!

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think
