How To Hide Chat On TikTok Live

2 min read

TikTok Live has become an enormously popular feature on the social media platform since it was added to the app in 2020.

Not only are the streams a fun way for TikTok users to get to know and interact with their favorite content creators, but creators and TikTok influencers love holding live streams because they can boost engagement and fan loyalty, promote products, and earn revenue from the gifts they receive from viewers during their Live shows.

The host-viewer interaction on TikTok Live can become annoying, though, at least to some people.

Users can’t “talk” to the creator running the chat; they can only use text chat. Their messages scroll up the screen as they contribute their comments, as do notifications when each user enters the chat. And if it’s a talkative audience with lots of turnover the non-stop chat scroll can be distracting, particularly if the host is doing a tutorial, show and tell, or product demo.

It may not be long after entering a Live stream that you’ve had enough with the chat and want to disable it. Here’s what to do.

Hiding Scrolling Text on TikTok Live

Thankfully, hiding chat on a stream is a very simple matter.

Once you’ve joined a TikTok Live session, look for the “Share” icon (a sweeping right arrow) at the bottom right of the screen. Tapping on it opens a pop-up with a wide variety of options.

Just scroll all the way to the right on the bottom row of icons, and you’ll find the “Clear display” control. Tap it, close the pop-up, and all of the text that would otherwise have appeared on the screen (including notifications of gifts from users) will be hidden. To restore the text, just leave the Live stream and return, and everything will be back to normal.

It couldn’t be easier!
