How To Know If Someone Blocked You On TikTok

It can be disconcerting to find that an online friend, someone whose TikTok content you’ve regularly enjoyed, or a user who you’ve messaged with in the past, seemingly disappears without a trace.

Have they given up on the social media platform? Did something happen to them?
Or have they blocked you?

The app doesn’t notify you when someone blocks your account, and there’s no definitive way to check whether a TikTok user has blocked you. A number of signs will give you a pretty good idea, though.

Indications That You’ve Been Blocked on TikTok

If you’re wondering if you’ve been blocked, there’s a good chance that you have.

A lack of updates from a TikTok account that you’ve followed regularly, or an inability to send a DM to a friend you’ve chatted with for years, are preliminary signs that you’ve been blocked from interacting with the user.

Here’s what you should do to confirm your suspicions.

  1. If they’d previously been following you, check your followers list (visible by visiting your profile page and clicking on your Followers count) to see if they’re still there. If they’ve disappeared from your fan base, there’s a good chance you’ve been blocked.
  2. If videos that you’ve bookmarked from the creator disappear from your favorites, you’ve probably been blocked.
  3. If you’ve messaged with each other in the past, pull up your Inbox and find one of the previous messages. If their username shows as blank or “Account Not Found,” they’re either gone from TikTok or have blocked you.
  4. Use the app’s search function to look for the other person’s username. If their TikTok profile page doesn’t come up, they’ve either left the social media platform, changed their TikTok username, or blocked you.
  5. Ask a friend who’s not a mutual acquaintance to do the same search. If they can see the user’s profile, you’ve almost certainly been blocked.

None of these indicators will definitively prove that you’ve been blocked; the other user may just have deleted their account. If the user you’ve been searching for or trying to reach is an influencer or someone with a large fan base, though, it’s extremely unlikely that they’ve simply decided to vanish. It’s time to accept the fact that they’ve blocked you.
