How To Make A Playlist On TikTok

Almost all of us have playlists, whether they’re on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, or another app. It’s the easiest way to make sure every tune you hear while running, taking a long drive, or doing anything else is a banger.

TikTok has playlists too, but they’re not quite the same. They’re used by the audience, not the creator; the social media platform’s playlist function lets TikTok users sort their public content into categories that viewers can see in a preselected order.

For example, tutorials can be sorted sequentially, so a playlist about building birdhouses might start with a video about choosing the right type of wood, followed by one that discusses types of birdhouses, a third about the tools needed to do the woodworking, and so on. Workout videos could be sorted so they’re seen in increasing levels of difficulty. You get the idea.

It’s easy to make a playlist of your TikTok videos. Here’s how to do it.

Making a TikTok Playlist

(One important note: this feature isn’t available yet to all creators. If you find that you can’t access the playlist function, be patient. It should be coming soon.)

The first step, of course, is to create a number of videos that focus on the same general topic and make sense to be watched in a specific order. Once your TikTok content has been produced, building a playlist is simple.

  1. Go to your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Some users will see a “Sort videos into playlist” button above their post thumbnails, which allows them to create a new playlist.
  3. Others will have to take another step: Open the menu on the Profile page (it’s the three horizontal line icon at the top right of your profile), click on “TikTok Studio,” tap the “More Tools” link, and then select “Create playlist.”
  4. Creating the playlist works the same way no matter which screen you’re on. When prompted, enter a name for your new playlist (choose a descriptive or catchy one) and then select the videos you’d like to add. You can change their order at any time.

Another way to create a playlist is to open the first video you’d like to appear in the queue, click the “Share” icon (a right arrow), and from the menu select Playlist > Add playlist.

You can use the same basic procedure if you want to add another video to your playlist; just load the video and then go to Share > Playlist > Add to playlist. (If you’ve loaded the video from your profile, you won’t see the “Share” option, so tap on the three-dot icon to see the full sharing menu.

To manage existing playlists, just click the “Manage playlists” button on your profile page and you’ll be able to add posts, remove posts, change the name of your playlist, or drag the posts to different positions to change their order. (The last post you’ve added to the playlist will actually play first, so this is an important function to know about.)

If you decide to delete an entire playlist, just choose it on your profile and navigate to More options > Delete playlist. That won’t delete the videos, only the playlist.

One final note: you can only put your posts into one playlist at a time.

How Do You Find a User’s Playlists?

Easy-peasy. Find the user’s TikTok profile page, and the names of their playlists will be shown at the top of their “Videos” tab. Tap the playlist title to start watching in order. If you want to see all of the posts in the playlist, click the playlist title at the bottom of the first video and you’ll see the complete list.
