How To Unblock Someone On TikTok

2 min read

Social media platforms have sadly become more and more contentious — and occasionally unsettling — in recent years. Even apps like TikTok, where politics usually take a back seat to dance and lip-sync videos, aren’t immune to trolling, stalking, cyberbullying, spamming, scamming, and other activities that can make surfing and hanging out unpleasant.

That’s why the ability to block problematic TikTok users is essential. With two clicks, you can ensure that someone who’s been bothering you can’t see your TikTok posts or profile, follow you, visit your Live streams, or see what you’re doing on the app.

Occasionally, though, you could want to unblock someone. You may have blocked the wrong person by mistake or realized that you acted too quickly, you might have blocked a friend who you later made up with, you could have heard that the user you blocked has left the platform, or you might have some other reason to remove the block.

How do you do it? It’s easy.

Unblocking a TikTok Account

There are two methods you can use to unblock someone on TikTok.

  1. If they haven’t blocked you as well, you can visit their TikTok profile (find it by putting their username into the search box), click the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of the screen, and choose “Unblock” from the drop-down menu.
  2. If they’ve blocked you as well, do this instead. Visit your own profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your main screen, and bring up your own menu. Click (in order) “Settings and privacy” and “Privacy,” and scroll down to the “Blocked accounts” option. Find the name of the user you want to unblock on the list and tap “Unblock.”

It takes just seconds to unblock a user — and the good news is that if you realize that you should never have lifted the block, it takes just a few more seconds to block them once more and make them vanish from your TikTok life again.
