When you sign up for a TikTok account, you’re asked for personal information that lets the social media platform confirm who you are.
That can cause a problem for new TikTok users who mistype their birth date. The system uses that data to determine whether you’re an adult entitled to a public account — and you have to jump through hoops to change it.
But what if you make a mistake entering your phone number, or you get a new phone with a different number? No worries; it’s simple to change the number that TikTok has on file for you.
How to Change Your Phone Number on TikTok
All you need to make the change is your new phone number and your new phone (assuming that you’ve already added the TikTok app).
- Visit your TikTok profile by tapping on the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen.
- Open the menu by clicking the icon with three horizontal lines at the top right of the profile screen.
- Choose “Settings and privacy.”
- Tap “Account” and choose “Account information.”
- Click on “Phone number,” and then choose the “Change” option. (If you no longer want a phone number associated with your account, choose “Remove” or “Unlink phone” instead.)
- Enter your new phone number. A confirmation code will be sent to your new phone; enter the code when you receive it in your email and you’ll be all set.
Just remember to make sure the email associated with your account is current before starting this process; otherwise, you won’t be able to receive the confirmation code.
If you don’t have access to the email account TikTok has on file, you’ll have to contact support online at support.tiktok.com, or by going to Settings and privacy > Report a problem in the app, and then following the prompts from there.
