You’ll hear numerous “expert opinions” on just about every question related to TikTok and other social media platforms.
Why are they just opinions and not answers? Quite simply, there are no firm answers to judgment questions, and virtually every statement about TikTok strategy and best practices expresses a judgment call.
That’s not only because every user and every TikTok post is different. It’s also because most of the app’s actions and responses are the work of proprietary, opaque TikTok algorithms. No one can definitively explain what works and what doesn’t, except a few of the people who work at the social app.
So, no expert can tell you with certainty “the right number” of posts to upload daily. One user might find that 10 posts per day deliver great results, while another could see impressive organic growth when creating just a few posts per week.
Here’s what we can tell you, though: TikTok recommends posting 1-4 times per day. Let’s start there.
Reasons to Post on TikTok
Many TikTok users are on the platform just to enjoy the videos others create, so it doesn’t matter if they post four times a day, once a week — or not at all. They have no reason to shoot TikTok videos if they only want to be entertained and/or informed.
Others use TikTok primarily to interact with their friends and/or family. They may only post when they have something personal to share with their small group of followers, or they may binge-post if they’re going back and forth with friends on a topic of mutual interest. The frequency with which they upload TikTok content is dictated by circumstances, not by the “right” timing.
Then there are users who are trying to build a larger TikTok fan base. They need to maximize exposure for their posts to build an audience of followers, which makes the number of videos they post — and when they post their content — crucial factors in audience building and TikTok growth.
Tips For Posting on TikTok
Influencers and successful content creators will suggest many different posting schedules.
The most common recommendations are 1-4 times per day (as TikTok also suggests) and 2-3 times per day. That makes sense, as it appears that the system’s algorithms value regular, frequent posting and engagement when deciding which videos deserve bigger audiences on the app.
However, those whose content niches are less popular may tell you that just a few posts each week keep their TikTok followers satisfied and their fan base growing, and some power users with hundreds of thousands of followers say they do best when posting as often as 10 times a day.
As with any social media decision-making, the best approach is to start with the most common approach and then experiment. Begin posting 1-4 times per day, and then vary the frequency slightly until you find the sweet spot for your TikTok account, content, and niche.
One other point should be emphasized. If you don’t create the most compelling, high-quality content possible, it makes no difference how often you post. Whether you upload one, four, or ten poor-quality videos, very few people will want to watch them and you won’t build any extra popularity or importance on the app. One top-quality video is better than four mediocre ones.
Other suggestions for users trying to decide when to upload their new content:
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule, which makes your TikTok presence predictable and comfortable for followers. They’ll always know when new videos will drop, so they’ll be less tempted to unfollow you out of frustration. It’s also a signal to potential followers that they can expect to see regular, high-quality videos if they hit the “follow” button.
- Make use of scheduling tools to keep your posting on target. TikTok has a built-in scheduler, and you can find many third-party tools and services with enhanced analytics and other social media features. Whichever you choose, they’ll help you maintain your schedule despite other obligations or personal emergencies.
- It’s best to time your posts to appear when the majority of your TikTok followers are active on the app. That way, they’ll be most likely to see your videos on their feeds, engage with them, and remain satisfied members of your fan base. You can check TikTok analytics to determine the times of day that your followers are on the platform.
Remember, there’s no “right” way to schedule the frequency or timing of your TikTok posts. Use trial and error to learn what works best for you.
