TikTok has broken a lot of ground in the social media world. From its short-form video format to its innovative in-app editing tools, TikTok has changed the way that most people view and create content and interact on social platforms.
One of the coolest features the app has introduced is “Stitches,” an editing technique that allows TikTok users to “stitch” their own content onto as much as five seconds of someone else’s TikTok video. The approach lets content creators react to, respond to, rebut, or follow up on another user’s work, or simply use it as a jumping-off point for their TikTok post.
Only content from a public account can be used to make a Stitch, and each creator controls whether segments of their video can be used by others. Plenty of material is available, though, and Stitches have proven to be a very popular TikTok innovation.
How to See Stitches on TikTok
If you spend much time scrolling through your TikTok feed, you’re bound to see plenty of Stitches without doing anything “special” to find them.
For those who are intrigued by the concept or are looking for inspiration before trying to make their own TikTok Stitch, here’s how you can find examples of the videos that have been posted on the social media platform.
You can try doing a TikTok search (click on the magnifying glass at the top of your home screen navigation bar) for #stitches, but you’re likely to be bombarded with videos about characters from the Lilo and Stitch movies instead.
A much better approach is to find a starting point. When you see a Stitch appear in your feed, search for other Stitches created by the same user by typing “#stitch @username“ into the search bar. You’ll see all of the videos they’ve created with the technique, and probably many Stitches shot by other people if you keep scrolling the results.
Many Stitches are made from trending clips, and you can use the same technique to see all of the ones that have used a specific clip as their starting point. Just look at the original video to find the creator’s username, and search for #stitches followed by @theirusername. Want to find Stitches people have made from your videos? Do the same thing with @yourusername.
Stitches (and Duets, similar content made with two user videos side-by-side) have added a new dimension to TikTok interaction. They’re not only fun, but they’re a great way to make friends and collaborate with other users on the app.
