For most TikTok users, it’s enjoyable to just scroll through your feed and watch all of the TikTok videos posted to the social media platform. It’s even more fun if you have company.
We’re not referring to watching alongside a significant other, although that can also be great (if you can both see the screen, of course). We’re talking about having lots of friends on the app with whom you can share TikTok content and exchange DMs.
One of the many cool features built into the platform is a method for searching and finding your existing contacts, whether you have their information on your phone or they’re a friend of yours on Facebook. And using the feature is simple.
How To Find Your Contacts on TikTok
Most people synch their contacts as soon as they get their TikTok account, since the app asks if you want to do it while you’re setting things up. If you figured you’d take care of it later and have finally gotten around to it, though, here’s what you have to do.
- Open the app and tap the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the home screen.
- Click the “Find friends” icon (it’s a silhouette of a person with a “+” sign, right next to the “Share profile” button).
- Tap the “Find contacts” option on the page that appears.
- The app may ask for permission to sync your phone with TikTok; click “OK.” Tap “Continue,” and a list of the people you know who are on TikTok will appear with “Follow buttons” next to each of them. Choose the contacts to follow, and you’re done.
- Now return to the “Find friends” page, tap “Find Facebook friends,” and follow the same procedure to add the ones you want to stay in touch with on TikTok.
If you decide later that you no longer want your contacts synced, just go to Profile > Menu (the three horizontal bars at the top right of your TikTok profile page) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Sync contacts and Facebook friends. Turn the “Sync contacts” toggle off.
That won’t remove TikTok friends that have previously been synched, though. To do that, stay on the “Sync contacts and Facebook friends” page, click “Remove previously synced contacts” and confirm. TikTok may still suggest friends based on the accounts you’d previously synched, but won’t show the old contacts or automatically add any new ones.
Remember, though — when it comes to friends on social media, the more the merrier!
