Is There Any Way To Add A Twitch Link On TikTok?

Most people have a favorite social media platform where they spend most of their time. However, they’re likely to spend time on other social apps as well.

That gives them the perfect way to “cross-promote” their accounts and content. One good example: many gamers spend hours and hours on Twitch, but TikTok is becoming a more and more popular venue for live gaming streams.

It would be ideal, then, for a gamer to post the URL of their Twitch account somewhere on their TikTok account, making it easy for their fans to find them on the platform used mostly for gaming. It’s a simple and effective way to build audiences and followers, and it’s one of the top tips that social media marketing services recommend for organic growth on social platforms.

Unfortunately, TikTok is one of the stricter apps when it comes to adding outside links. You have to know exactly where and how you can post a Twitch link, because the platform’s rules are quite restrictive.

No worries. We’ve got you covered.

How To Add a Twitch Link to TikTok

The first step, of course, is obtaining the location of your Twitch profile so you can post it to TikTok. All you have to do is click the “Profile” icon in your Twitch account and copy the URL from your browser bar. If you’re on a phone without an easily visible browser bar, your Twitch link will be twitch.tv/ followed by your username on the platform.

OK, now what do you do with it? There are two places you can add it on TikTok.

In Your TikTok Profile

Not everyone can use this method, unfortunately — but there’s a workaround.

Users with personal accounts must have 1,000+ TikTok followers to add outside links to their profiles. When you click on the “Edit” button on your profile page (accessible by tapping the “Profile” icon on your home screen), you’ll see a “Links” option.

If you don’t have enough followers, you can only add a link to connected social apps like Instagram or Lemon8. Once you cross the magic 1,000 barrier, though, you’ll see a field where you can enter the URL of your Twitch account (or any other app or website). Your profile visitors will be able to click on that link to find you on Twitch.

You don’t have enough followers? Here’s the hack.

Open your profile menu (tap the three horizontal lines at the top-right of your profile page) and go to Settings and privacy > Account. Click on the “Switch to Business Account” link and follow the prompts. Once you have a business account on TikTok, you’re allowed to include a clickable link in your profile, no matter how many followers you have.

Pro tip: If you want to include more links than just the one for your Twitch account, set up a link tree with a service like linktr.ee. You’re allowed to create a list of all the URLs you want to promote, and you’re given a single link tree URL leading to that list. Inserting it on your TikTok profile lets people access all of the social accounts and websites you want them to know about.

In Your TikTok Posts

Another one of TikTok’s strict rules is that you can’t insert clickable links of your choice into your TikTok videos or descriptions unless you’re a paying advertiser or have a TikTok Shop that you’re promoting. They only allow outside links to authority sites like Wikipedia.

That doesn’t prevent you from including links, though — viewers just can’t click them. You’re able to put a URL in your post description, or insert it as text or a graphic into your TikTok content. Some users have reported that their videos containing links have been taken down, but most were promoting questionable websites or content.

Take advantage of every opportunity to cross-promote your Twitch or other social media presences to TikTok users. It’s the smart way to build your online following and exposure!
