Some TikTok users don’t even know that TikTok coins exist. Many content creators love them, though. TikTok coins are the currency used on the social media platform to “tip” creators during TikTok Live sessions, in the form of gifts.
Coins are purchased in packages, either in real time during live streams or in users’ profiles, and buying them can get expensive — particularly for generous users.
It would be great if you could find a way to get free TikTok coins. Is there? Let’s dig deeper.
What Are TikTok Coins?
Attendees purchase TikTok coins for real money, use them to buy gifts ranging in value from about a penny to as much as $562, and give them to the creators running the streams to show their appreciation. The gifts’ value accumulates, and the recipients can redeem them for cash (although TikTok keeps 50% of the transaction as a commission).
Despite the hefty fees charged by the app, gifts can represent a significant portion of the income creators earn after they’ve monetized their accounts. By extension, that makes TikTok coins quite valuable on the app.
It’s easy to understand why people are always searching for ways to get coins for free.
Free TikTok Coins: Can You Find Them Anywhere?
You might say that influencers and creators who run TikTok Lives get coins for free; they just have to open a Live stream, and people give them tips. Right?
The influencers and creators wouldn’t say that they work for “free.” Most put in hours to create content every day, build their fan bases, and plan Live sessions that will draw audiences and earn their viewers’ appreciation in the form of tips.
So, putting that definition of “free” aside, is there any other way that users and creators can rack up coins in their balance without buying them?
There are several — but you can’t count on any of them being available when you need coins.
-
- Enter a TikTok Contest: The platform periodically runs challenges and contests that award coins as prizes. Regularly check for trending challenges to find and enter them.
- Pay Attention to Ads: From time to time, brands and creators run contests on the appand you may be able to win coins if you enter.
- Special Events and Referrals: These aren’t always available, but keep your eye out for TikTok special events (usually held on holidays or TikTok’s anniversary in September) and referral programs. Coins may be available as rewards for participating in those events or referring new users.
What About Free Coin Generators?
Sorry, those are scams.
You’ll often see “free TikTok coins” schemes if you search on Google, and they’re not legitimate. TikTok doesn’t cooperate with any of the websites to provide coins, and you can rest assured that the sites aren’t purchasing coins simply to give them away.
Here’s what most of the scammers do. They get people to sign up for new TikTok accounts and link them to third-party apps, in return for free coins. The new accounts are then used for spamming — and even if you do get your free coins, you’ll quickly be banned from the platform.
A better idea, if you’re looking to save money on TikTok coins, is to search for the best places to buy them. For example, coin prices vary depending on where you live; if you purchase them in countries like Brazil or Malaysia (or with a VPN that sets your location to one of those countries), you’ll pay less than you would in the US or UK.
Coins are also cheaper if you buy them on the TikTok website (tiktok.com/coin) instead of through the app; in-app purchases are hit with a hefty surcharge because they go through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. You may pay as much as 30% less for coins by using the platform’s website for your purchases.
