Is Your TikTok Bio Outdated? It’s Easy To Change

Once you get hooked on the terrific TikTok content that scrolls through your feed or addicted to creating your own TikTok videos, there’s a good chance you won’t give much thought to what you did when you signed up for the social media platform.

You probably either wrote a quick bio for your TikTok profile or thought, “I’ll get to it later,” and promptly forgot about it.

A great bio isn’t the be-all and end-all of establishing a dominant TikTok presence, but it certainly helps. When people are impressed by one of your TikTok posts and want to learn more about you, they’ll check out your profile — and the first thing most will do is read the bio that you’ve created.

Those profile (and bio) visits are great opportunities to turn viewers into the TikTok followers you need to become more influential and important on the app. It’s important to make a positive impression, and a “placeholder” bio that you wrote when you first got your TikTok account probably won’t do the job. It should be carefully crafted to match your content and goals.

You’re only given 80 characters for your bio, and that includes spaces, punctuation, emojis, and a link (if desired). That’s very little space to work with, so it’s crucial to spend time — in advance of posting — writing a short, punchy bio that spells out details of your brand, describes the type of content you create, and (hopefully) shows off a little of your personality.

Your situation may be different. You may already have a great bio, but need to change some of the details to reflect changes in your content approach or your personal or business details.

Whatever the reason you have for changing your TikTok bio, writing is the hard part. Once you’ve finished, posting the finished product is simple.

How to Change a Bio on TikTok

While you’re at it, you might also want to update your profile photo as well as your bio. Have the picture ready before you dive in.

  1. Open your TikTok profile by clicking on the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen.
  2. Tap the “Edit profile” button in the middle of the profile page, right under your “following” count.
  3. Scroll down to and click “Bio.” You’ll see a large text screen where you can write your bio (or better, cut and paste the one you’ve already written). A counter at the bottom of the text box will show you how many characters you’ve used and how many you have left. You can also add @Mentions by tapping the appropriate button.
  4. When you’re satisfied, press “Save.” It’s a good idea to check how your new bio displays on the screen. It may look different once the system has formatted it and you may want to tinker further.

If you need to add your pronouns or a link, that’s done from the options on your “Edit profile” screen; you can change your profile photo by tapping the existing one at the top of the page.

Remember, your profile and bio tell other TikTok users what they need to know when deciding whether to become your fan. Don’t waste the opportunity!
