TikTok arguably has more user-friendly features than any other social media platform. There’s one area where the app could make things easier, though: letting you find a great TikTok video you saw in your feed but now seems to be gone forever. A video rarely reappears on your feed.
Of course, the smart way to be sure you can find it again is to save the TikTok posts you love. You just have to tap the bookmark icon (some think it looks like a flag) on the right-hand menu while you’re watching a video. You’ll also have the option to add it to a specific collection of saved content.
That’s great — but once you’ve saved a video, where do you find it when you want to watch it again or show it to a friend?
Favorites on TikTok
The posts you save on TikTok are officially known as “favorites,” and you can locate them with just a few clicks.
- Open the app and tap the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen.
- Look for the scrolling menu of icons in the middle of your TikTok profile. You’ll see the same bookmark icon (but with an eye added to the right-hand side); tap it and all of your saved videos will appear. Scroll down to find the one you want to watch.
Most TikTok users wind up with a ton of saved videos after just a few days (or a few hours) on the app, and scrolling through all of that content can be annoying. The app has an easy way to manage them: collections. Collections are like file cabinets; you can put bookmarked videos into categories that are much simpler to look through.
Here’s how to do it. Once you’ve found your bookmarked videos, tap “Collections” and you’ll see a prompt to “Create new collection.” You’ll be asked to name the collection, and then all of your saved videos will appear. Choose the ones you want to add to your new collection, tap “Add videos” at the top of the page, and you’re done.
One important note: this action doesn’t remove the videos from the “favorites” section, it only copies them to your collection. They’ll have to be deleted from your main favorites list if you only want them to appear in the collection.
Setting up collections for your bookmarked videos can take a little time, but once it’s done, it’s vastly preferable to scrolling through hundreds of thumbnails to find the one you want.
Saving TikTok Videos on Your Phone
TikTok makes it easy to favorite videos, but if you want to make sure you have access to them forever, saving them to your phone or device is a better option.
Instead of hitting the bookmark icon on a video, tap the “Share” icon (the curved right arrow) instead. A popup window will appear; tap “Save video” and it will be downloaded to your camera reel. (If you don’t see an option to save the video, it means the content creator has prohibited downloads.)
Enjoy your favorites!
