Logging Out Of TikTok: How And When To Do It

2 min read

It’s easiest and most convenient to just stay logged into your TikTok account.

The average TikTok user spends about 90 minutes a day on the social media platform, usually in short bursts spent scrolling feeds and checking notifications. And since that same average user spends as much as five hours a day on their phone, it might seem to make no sense to keep logging out and logging back in again.

There are times, though, when it makes sense to log off of TikTok.

If you’re sharing a device with someone else, loaning your phone to a friend or trading it in, or using another person’s account (with permission, of course), you don’t want to leave the account available for accidental or deliberate misuse. Just leaving the phone somewhere out of your sight could be inviting trouble.

You might also be having problems with TikTok not working properly; a common troubleshooting technique is to log out of the app and log back on again.

Turning something off is usually an easy technique to figure out — but many TikTok settings and options can be difficult to find. If you’ve never had a reason to turn the app off (or have never thought about doing it), we’re here to help.

How Do You Log Out of TikTok?

Logging out is an easy process, and you may have been “in the neighborhood” without scrolling far enough to see the “Logout” option.

  1. Open the app and navigate to your TikTok profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the home screen.
  2. Open the profile menu by clicking on the three horizontal lines at the top right of the profile screen.
  3. On the popup screen that opens, choose “Settings and privacy.”
  4. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the next screen and click on “Log out.” Confirm, and you’re successfully logged out.

It’s not a bad idea to get used to logging off of TikTok whenever your phone is going to be unattended for an extended period, particularly if you have a balance of TikTok coins or are around people who shouldn’t see any personal information you may have in the app.

And needless to say, security is always worth protecting when it comes to your social media presence.
