My TikTok Post Got Reported! Can I See Who Did It?

2 min read

When scammers or spammers have their TikTok videos or comments taken down after a user complains about them, they usually shrug. It’s part of the “game” they play, and they move on.

When a TikTok user posts something that clearly violates TikTok’s terms and conditions or the social media platform’s Community Standards, they may be annoyed or angry when they’re penalized, but they also probably know they did something wrong. They generally move on, too.

What happens, though, when you don’t think you’re breaking any rules but your TikTok content still gets reported — and you’re hit with a penalty or account suspension?

First, you can appeal the decision. A link to the appeal form is included in the penalty notification you receive. Decisions are rarely overturned, but you might get lucky.

Second, you might want to have a discussion with the user who reported you, or block their TikTok account so they won’t have access to the rest of your posts.

We have bad news on that front.

Can You See Who Reported You on TikTok?

In a word, no.

TikTok’s reporting procedure is fully anonymous. The platform’s reasoning is simple: users would be much less likely to flag offensive or illegal posts if they were afraid that their name would be revealed and they could face harassment or other retaliation.

Whether it’s to protect users from all forms of content and behavior that violates the platform’s rules, or to protect the app from lawsuits — in all likelihood, it’s a combination of both — TikTok is said to rigorously investigate reported violations of its terms and Community Standards, and to penalize the offending TikTok account.

The probes and actions may take a while, since manual reviewers look into all flagged content and actions on the platform. However, reports received by offenders will only specify the violations that are being penalized, and not the name of the user who complained.

Most fair-minded people would agree that’s the proper way to handle things.
