Seeing Your TikTok Views: How To Do It

3 min read

Companies often sign up for TikTok so they can advertise on the app. Some people may join because they want to interact with friends, make money from content creation, or make new connections.

However, there are two major reasons why most people sign up for any social media platform: they want to view other people’s posts, and they want other people to view theirs.

There are many ways to measure engagement with posts, but the fast and easy way to do it is to check the total number of views a TikTok video has received. The running total can be found on the creator’s profile page, in the corner of the video’s thumbnail.

That’s not a full picture of a post’s popularity, but it’s a good enough start to satisfy most TikTok users. What’s more interesting to some, though, is seeing who has viewed their TikTok post. That information can give creators a better picture of the people who stop to watch their videos, and provide important guidance when they sit down to create their next masterpiece.

Unfortunately, the viewer lists that TikTok provides are incomplete. Let’s break it down.

How Do You See Your Views on TikTok?

We’ll start with bad news for popular creators and influencers. The “post views” feature is only available to users with fewer than 5,000 TikTok followers. If you have lots of TikTok fans and your videos regularly rack up tons of views, this option won’t be available to you; the app says it’s just too much information to track and display.

Readers with smaller follower bases can see the viewer list, but they first have to enable a setting that also makes their views public. In other words, if you want to see who watches your content, you also have to let creators see that you’ve watched theirs. It’s not a one-way street.

There’s one more limitation. The list of viewers is only current for the past 30 days. You can’t see who’s viewed your posts more than a month ago (nor can other creators see that you watched theirs more than 30 days ago).

Ready to give it a go?

  1. Open your TikTok profile by clicking the “Profile” link at the bottom right of your home screen.
  2. Tap the “Menu” icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your profile, and then choose “Settings and privacy” from the window that pops up.
  3. Select “Privacy” and scroll down to “Viewer history.”
  4. Click the link and move the toggle switch to “On.”

You can now see a list of recent post viewers by looking in your profile’s content grid, finding the thumbnail for the video you’re interested in, and tapping on the total number of viewers the post has received. That will bring up the history list for that post — but it will only show you the users who’ve enabled profile views on their end as well.

Remember, everyone who has activated profile views will be able to see that you’ve watched their video, too, so be judicious if you want to protect your privacy on the app.

Can I See Which Videos I’ve Viewed in the Past?

If you take the term “seeing your views” another way, it could mean that you want to go back and find TikTok videos you’ve previously viewed. That’s a much easier process.

  1. Visit your TikTok profile and open the menu.
  2. Click on “Settings and profile.”
  3. Scroll down and tap on “Activity center.”
  4. Choose the “Watch history” link, and you’ll see all of the videos created by other users that you’ve viewed in the past.

No app is perfect, including TikTok. The limited ability to see view histories can still be a useful tool, however, whether you want to know the type of people who view your posts or you’ve simply remembered a great video that you want to watch again.
