Half the fun of creating a TikTok video is being able to showcase your opinions, observations, responses to other posts, or random thoughts. The other half of the fun? Letting your creative juices flow during the editing process.
TikTok gives you lots of great tools to use when you’re editing a TikTok post, and one of the most enjoyable ways to play around with your video is to experiment with the many voices available in the editor. There are dozens to choose from, ranging from demure and cringy, to superhero and comedian.
One of the voices TikTok users choose most often is “trickster,” a high-pitched devilish effect that can give a playful feel to any video.
And there are several ways to add it to your TikTok content.
Changing Your Voice to “Trickster” in a TikTok Video
When you’re recording a post on your phone, you can easily have your normal voice changed to the Trickster’s.
- Tap the “+” button at the bottom of your home screen to open the Record screen.
- Choose the maximum length of the video (15 seconds, 60 seconds, or 10 minutes) you want to record.
- Find and tap the “Voice” icon on the right-hand menu (you may have to expand the menu to see it).
- A menu of all available voices will appear at the bottom of the screen; scroll, find, and tap “Trickster.” Hit “x” to close the voice menu.
- Record your video as usual, and your voice will be transformed into the “Trickster.”
You can also record the video normally, and change your voice during the editing process.
- Record your video and tap the checkmark to move to the Editing screen.
- Find and tap the “Voice” icon on the right-hand menu, and a large window will open with all of the app’s voice effects.
- Choose “Trickster” and close the window. Your voice will be changed.
The same procedure will work for content you import into the TikTok video editor from your camera roll.
Adding a “Trickster” Voiceover
You can also add narration or a second voice as the “Trickster” to your video with just a few clicks.
- Record a video as usual.
- On the Editing screen, tap the “Aa” icon to add text.
- Type your text onto the screen, or use the speech-to-text function on your keyboard to dictate it.
- Tap the text-to-speech icon (a head speaking) in the top menu bar, choose “Trickster” from the pop-up window, and click “Done” at the top of the screen.
- You’ll now hear the Trickster narration, using the text you inputted.
I Don’t See a Trickster Voice Option!
Don’t panic. There could be several reasons why you can’t choose “Trickster” from your voice effects menus.
- Many TikTok voices aren’t available to users with a business account, and Trickster is one of them. You must have a personal TikTok account to find it and use it. If you want to change from a business to a personal account, go to your TikTok profile, open the menu at the top right of the screen (three horizontal lines), then choose Settings and privacy > Account and select “Switch to Personal Account.” The Trickster should now be available when you edit video.
- Older versions of TikTok may not have all of the voices that are currently available. Upgrade to the latest version.
- Your Internet connection may not be stable enough for you to access all of the app’s functions. Check your signal, move to a different location, or try a different network.
You still can’t find the Trickster? You’re not alone. Some users report that voices appear and vanish from their menus from time to time, and most say the voices reappear if they wait for a while. As a last resort, you can uninstall and reinstall the app; just remember that you’ll lose your saved drafts when you delete the app version you’re currently using.
