The Easy Way To Enjoy Your TikTok Feed: Autoscrolling

3 min read

Do you spend so much time watching TikTok videos that your thumbs and fingers get tired? Do you hate having to do chores around the house because you can’t scroll your feed while you’re working?

TikTok has heard you. They’ve introduced a new “autoscroll” feature that lets you watch your feed hands-free. The TikTok posts keep rolling until you see one that you’re interested in; you just have to tap that video to stop scrolling and watch it.

As with most newer features added to the app, not all TikTok users can use autoscroll yet. It’s only available in some versions and in some regions of the world. If you’re one of the unlucky ones, we’ll suggest a more complicated way to set up a similar function shortly.

If you’re able to autoscroll your feed, though, here’s how to do it.

Activating TikTok’s Autoscroll Feature

How do you know if you have an app that supports autoscroll? Try it and you’ll quickly find out.

  1. Go to your For You page (FYP) by tapping the “For You” option in the top menu.
  2. Tap the middle of a video and hold your finger there until a popup window opens.
  3. If you see an “Auto scroll” option, click it. Your feed will now autoscroll unless you repeat the action and choose “Manual scroll,” or stop the scrolling to watch a video.

If you don’t see the “Auto scroll” option, that means it’s not available on your version of the app or you’re not in an area where you can use the feature yet. You can try upgrading to the newest TikTok version, but if that doesn’t help, there’s still some hope.

Setting Up a TikTok Autoscroll Hack

This alternative process allows you to set up your own rudimentary autoscroll system via voice command.

On Android Phones

  1. Install the Google Voice Access app from the Play Store on your phone.
  2. Open your phone’s settings menu and tap “Accessibility.” (If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, tap “Installed Apps.”)
  3. Find the Voice Access app that you’ve installed, tap it, and then toggle the switch at the top of the screen to “on.” Then agree to the conditions you’re presented with and tap “Finish.”
  4. A blue Voice Access button should now appear on your phone screen. You’ll be asked whether you want to leave access on continuously or just for 30 seconds; continuously is the better choice for autoscroll.
  5. Open TikTok and visit your feed. When you say “Scroll down,” you should see TikTok automatically scroll to the next video and then keep going. You can also say “scroll up” to return to the previous post.

On iPhones or iPads

  1. Open your device settings and click on “Accessibility.”
  2. Scroll down to find and click on “Voice Control.”
  3. Follow the instructions to turn Voice Control on.
  4. Next, tap “Customize Commands” and then “New Command,” find the “Enter a speakable phrase” field and type in the words you want to use to scroll your TikTok feed, like “Next or Move down.”
  5. Now tap “Action” and choose “Run Custom Gesture.”
  6. Since you’d normally swipe up to move through your feed, swipe up on the screen and then tap “Save.” This now associates the command you’ve typed in with the swipe action.
  7. Click “Application” and scroll down the list of installed apps to click on “TikTok.” That lets your voice command work on TikTok.
  8. If you want to enter another voice command like “Move up” to scroll your feed in the opposite direction, repeat the process (and swipe in the opposite direction for the “Action”).
  9. You can now open TikTok and use your voice commands to autoscroll.

Yes, that’s an annoying way to get your TikTok feed to work without using your hands, but it’s fun to play with — while you’re waiting for the app’s real autoscroll function to be available on your phone.

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think

TikTok’s terms and conditions and Community Standards prohibit content that includes nudity (or implied nudity), sexually suggestive or explicit material, and non-consensual intimate imagery.
