TikTok Comments: Can You Delete Them All At Once?

3 min read

It’s tempting to add your own two cents to TikTok content that captures your interest, whether the content is provocative, funny, cool, or dumb.

Hitting the “Comment” icon (three dots in a speech bubble) on a TikTok post and leaving a reaction literally takes just seconds — so you may wind up contributing something you regret later on. Fortunately, deleting the comment is just as easy.

Go to your TikTok profile, tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines), and choose Settings and privacy > Activity center > Watch history. You’ll see all of the videos you’ve watched in the past 180 days; open the one you’re searching for, hit the comment icon, and press-and-hold the response you’ve left that you want to remove. Click “Delete” on the popup, and it’s gone.

That brings up a different question. What if you’re changing the focus of your TikTok account and want to be less argumentative, or realize that lots of your comments violate the app’s Community Standards, or you want to lower your online profile to protect your privacy? Can you remove all of the comments you’ve left on the social media platform at the same time?

For that matter, what if one of your TikTok videos’ comment sections turns into a flame war or a debate you’d prefer not to have associated with your TikTok presence? Can you take all of the comments other people have left on your post and remove them at the same time?

We have good news and bad news.

How To Delete All TikTok Comments

Removing Comments That You’ve Posted

First, here’s the bad news. You can’t delete all of the comments you’ve posted on TikTok with one dramatic click of a link or push of a button. You have to remove them one by one.

Follow the directions we’ve given to reach the Activity center (Profile > Menu > Settings and Privacy > Activity center), but choose the link “Comment history.” You’ll see all of the comments you’ve left on other people’s posts; tap-and-hold on each one and select “Delete.” We hate to break the news, but you must do the same thing for each comment individually.

Removing Comments That Others Have Posted

OK, time for the better news. If you’ve found that one of your TikTok videos has attracted a number of distasteful comments and you want to remove all of the problematic ones, here’s how to do it.

  1. Open the post in question from your profile’s content grid.
  2. Click on the “Comments” icon (the speech bubble) in the right-hand menu, and then hit the “Filter” icon in the top right corner of the video’s comment list.
  3. You’ll see circles appear next to each of the comments; tap the circle next to each one you want to remove, and then click “Delete” at the bottom of the screen.
  4. The negative comments are now gone.

If the comment section on your post is an enormous s—t show and you want to remove all comments on the video without having to select each one individually, you’ll have to take a different approach.

Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the video’s right-hand menu, choose “Privacy settings” from the popup, find the “Allow comments” toggle switch, and turn it off. Not only will that prevent future comments from being left on the video, it will also hide all of the ones that have already been posted. You’ll have a clean comment section, permanently.

It’s a shame that bulk actions like these are sometimes necessary. When it does become a priority, though, it’s reassuring to know that — for the most part — TikTok has you covered.
