TikTok allows content creators to produce two unique styles of posts.
- Duets are essentially split-screen TikTok videos. The creator is on one side, while either another TikTok user or someone else’s video is on the other side. In the first case, the two people talk to each other; in the second, the creator comments on what’s happening in the previously-recorded video.
- Stitches begin with a five-second clip of someone else’s video. That’s followed by the creator’s reactions, responses, or in the case of content like dance challenges, their own version of the clip.
Duets and Stitches are used by influencers and creators to highlight their creativity, make their TikTok posts more engaging, and entice random surfers who see the posts to become their TikTok fans.
Do Duets and Stitches sound like approaches you’d like to try? They’re easy to create with the tools provided on the social media platform, as long as the original producers allow their content to be used collaboratively.
The first step, though, is understanding what these types of content look like, so you should watch some Duets or Stitches before setting out to make your own. Unfortunately, that’s not as easy as it sounds.
How to See Duets on TikTok
There’s no simple way to find Duets or Stitches via a TikTok search; you have to do a little work to find them. The process is the same for either type of content, so we’ll focus on Duets to get you started.
You need a starting point to find multiple TikTok Duets, so you’re going to have to discover at least one by accident — and since people who create one Duets are likely to have created more than one, that’s your starting point. Keep your eyes peeled for split-screen videos as you scroll your feed, and when you find one, make a note of the creator’s TikTok username. You’ll need it.
Now, go to the app’s search function by tapping the magnifying glass at the top right of your screen. Type “Duet @username” into the search box, hit “Search,” and a list of the Duets that the user has created will appear. That may not give you a wide variety of Duet styles to view, but you can repeat the process to see Duets that others have created.
There’s another option that lets you see Duets from a wider range of content creators.
People who use TikTok sounds in their Duets often use the same, trending songs When you discover one in your feed, try these approaches.
- Tap the musical note to the left of the sound’s name. You’ll see a large selection of videos that have used the sound; scroll down until you find Duets.
- Search for “Duet” followed by the name of the song. You may be more likely to see Duets near the top of the search results.
- You can also search just for “Duet” in the app’s search bar, but you’ll probably see a lot more videos telling you how to make Duets than actual examples of the technique.
It takes extra planning and work to create a compelling TikTok Duet (or Stitch), but when you see how much engagement those types of videos receive on the platform, you may decide that regularly using the techniques is worth the effort.
