If you have a TikTok account, your phone number is almost certainly linked to it.
You may not remember, but you were asked for the number when you signed up for an account on the social media platform. There are good reasons for the request; a text message is the easiest way to confirm your identity if you’ve lost your TikTok username and password or your account has been stolen.
Many people eventually have second thoughts about giving up their phone number, though.
- They might want to take stronger steps to protect their privacy, particularly if they’re dealing with spammers, identity theft, or stalkers.
- They might want to ensure that TikTok can’t use their phone number when suggesting contacts or followers.
- They might want to link the number to a different account since TikTok users can only have one account linked to each phone number.
It doesn’t really matter why you’ve decided to unlink your number. Doing it is fast and easy.
How to Unlink Your Phone Number on TikTok
This whole process should take no more than a minute or two. Before starting, you should be aware that you have to have an email account linked to your TikTok account if you want to unlink your phone number.
- Tap the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen to reach your TikTok profile page.
- Click on the “Menu” icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right of your profile page.
- Select “Settings and privacy” from the popup that appears.
- Tap “Account,” and then “Account information.”
- If you see a linked email account, skip the rest of this step. Otherwise, tap on “Email,” supply your email address, enter the confirmation code you receive via email once you receive it, and go back to the “Account information” screen.
- Tap on your phone number, and choose the option labeled either “Remove” or “Unlink phone.”
- You’ll be sent a confirmation code via text. Enter it on the TikTok screen, and you’re all set.
If you simply want to change the phone number in TikTok’s records to a different number, follow these same steps but choose “Change phone” instead of “Unlink phone.”
If you have any difficulties unlinking or changing your phone number, reach out to TikTok support by finding the “Support” option on the “Settings and privacy” menu. Just be patient; responses may take a while.
