TikTok Live Pinned Comments: Where Do They Come From?

TikTok Live is becoming an extremely popular feature on the social media platform.

Recent surveys show that 62% of TikTok users would rather watch Live streams than regular TikTok videos, and that one out of every five people who watch live streams does it on TikTok.

Content creators take all sorts of approaches to entertaining their Live viewers, from gaming and tutorials to celebrity collaborations and wacky stunts. Some of the most successful approaches involve getting viewers involved, and the way to do that is by encouraging clever and funny comments from those watching the stream.

How Do You Comment in a TikTok Live?

You may not be able to. Not all creators or Live moderators (volunteers who keep the session in order)allow viewers to comment in a TikTok stream.

Assuming that comments are enabled, though, you simply have to tap the window that says “Type…” to add your two cents to the chat. To respond to someone else’s comment, tap their comment, and a window will open for your response. (If you don’t want to see comments scrolling on the Live session, tap and hold the screen, and then choose “Clear display.”)

A prestigious recognition for any user in a Live stream is to have a comment “pinned” at the top of the comment display; everyone else’s comments will keep scrolling and disappear, but yours remains on top throughout the session.

How do you get your comment pinned?

Pinned Comments and Where They Come From

Live hosts or moderators are the only people who can decide that a comment is so good that it should be pinned. You can’t pin your own comment.

The best approach is to put thought and time into your comment, just as you would if it were any other type of TikTok content. Short and engaging, funny, or compelling comments are most likely to grab the attention of the people running the stream and convince them to pin your comment. (Sorry, begging the moderator for a pin probably won’t work.)

If you’re one of the people hosting or moderating a Live session, pinning a comment is simple. Just tap and hold your finger on the comment you’ve chosen until a pop-up window appears, choose “Pin comment,” and you’re done. Comments can be unpinned through the same process.

Enjoy the stream!

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think

TikTok’s terms and conditions and Community Standards prohibit content that includes nudity (or implied nudity), sexually suggestive or explicit material, and non-consensual intimate imagery. In short, “spicy TikTok” isn’t what you might think it is. Those who grew up in the early days of cable TV or when “men’s magazines” were popular wouldn’t immediately guess […]
