It can be time-consuming and frustrating to build an audience for a TikTok video, no matter how good it is.
TikTok users try all sorts of strategies to gain exposure for their content. Even if the methods work, the process of building TikTok engagement and a higher follower count can take weeks, months, or even longer. Only posts that go viral are guaranteed to quickly accumulate enormous numbers of likes, views, and comments.
There are only two shortcuts available when you want to boost visibility for your TikTok content and account. We’ll discuss one of them at the end of this article. The other depends on the social media platform’s “Promote” feature.
In effect, “Promote” means “advertise.” When you use this method, you pay money to TikTok in exchange for the benefits that their content advertising system can provide. Your video will be shown in users’ TikTok feeds, and you can select the audience that will see it based on demographics like age, location, gender, and interests.
Prices for these in-app ads depend on the number of times viewers see your post or click on it, and you can often begin a campaign for just a few bucks a day.
It’s easy to get started, too. Once you’ve uploaded a new TikTok post, you simply have to tap on the three-dot “More options” icon, choose “Promote,” select the parameters of your promotion campaign, and pay.
Not all videos can be promoted, though. If you’re not being shown the “Promote” option or TikTok won’t let you go through with the process, here’s what might be going wrong.
Why Can’t I Promote My TikTok?
The reasons you’re unable to use the app’s “Promote” feature can fall into several categories.
It’s You
Since Promote is linked to TikTok ad functions, you (and your TikTok account) must meet several qualifications.
- You must be 18 or older with an account in good standing.
- You must have a business account or be a content creator with access to the TikTok Studio. Promote also can’t be used by accounts owned by politicians or government agencies.
- You must agree to TikTok’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- As you’d expect, your payment must be accepted.
It’s Your Video
- Your content may violate the app’s Community Standards or Advertising Policies. You probably know the types of videos prohibited by the former, but the latter are much more strict; mature themes, regulated products, and sensitive topics can all cause TikTok to reject your promotion plans.
- Your video may be private. Only public videos are eligible for Promote campaigns.
- You may be using copyrighted music that hasn’t been approved for advertising content. In most cases, Sounds used in posts must come from the app’s commercial library, not the song library available to users with personal accounts.
- Your video may be poor-quality, confusing, or misleading. TikTok reviews all posts before they’re approved for the Promote feature.
It’s Your Campaign
- TikTok reserves the right to reject any promotional campaign if they believe the planned ad flight is too short or your ad budget is too low to deliver meaningful results.
If you find that you’re unable to sign up for TikTok Promote, first review all of these qualifications to make sure you’re not unknowingly violating any of the guidelines (copyrighted music is the most common issue). If you don’t see an issue with your account, post, or campaign and want more assistance, contact a rep through the TikTok Ads Manager at ads.tiktok.com.
Using this method to promote a video doesn’t work for everyone — but there’s no way to know whether it will help expose your content to a larger audience until you give it a try.
The Second Shortcut to Organic Growth
We mentioned at the start that there was another approach to growing the audience for your TikTok video, and this one doesn’t require TikTok approval.
Purchasing legitimate TikTok engagements from a reputable social media service company can quickly and effectively boost exposure for posts, by showing the TikTok algorithms that your content is becoming more popular and deserves more visibility. (Most vendors are just scammers selling fake likes and followers; they can hurt your account and should be avoided.)
