Trending Hashtags On TikTok: Where Can You Find Them?

4 min read

Experts on TikTok growth often suggest creating content that focuses on trending topics and always using trending hashtags in the videos’ descriptions.

It’s a smart move, for several reasons.

  • Thanks to your hashtags, people entering trending subjects into the TikTok search bar will be more likely to discover your videos, boosting your audience.
  • The TikTok algorithms are said to give greater weight to content that deals with trending topics, meaning greater exposure for your videos.
  • Trending hashtags are more likely to put your TikTok videos onto the For You page (FYP), where most users discover content creators they aren’t familiar with.

So far, so good. Most readers still have one key question, however: how do you find trending hashtags on TikTok?

There are quite a few places you can do your research, but one is far and away the best choice.

The TikTok Creative Center

It requires a little work to access this feature-packed TikTok section, but it’s worth it.

The Creative Center is primarily designed to support users with business TikTok accounts who want to advertise on the social media platform. Some areas of the Center are available to all TikTok users, though, including the bountiful “Trends” section.

Here’s the complication: very few features of the Creative Center, including Trends, can be reached from the app. You must log in (with your TikTok username and password, email/phone number, or Google account) on a web browser, at ads.tiktok.com/business/creativecenter/.

Once you’re there, visit Trends > Hashtags. You’ll be shown the top 100 hashtags trending on TikTok over the last week, and you can change settings to look back 30 days or 100 days if you prefer. You’re also able to look for hashtags that are new to the top 100, filter by industry, and examine the analytics for each trending hashtag to determine which ones fit your needs.

Content creators should explore further, too. Lists of trending songs, creators, and videos are also available, and other sections of the Creative Center provide lots of tools that can help video producers and businesses make the most of the platform.

Browse Your Feeds

Both the “Explore” and “For You” feeds are good places to look for trending subjects and hashtags, but most TikTok users find the Explore page (accessible from the top menu on the home screen) to be a better choice.

The Explore feed is designed to showcase what’s currently trending on the app, from topics and hashtags to sounds and effects. It’s a scrolling display of photos that lead to trending content. Spending some time on the feed gives you a good feel for what’s hot on TikTok.

You can get many of the same ideas by spending time on your For You page and making notes of the hashtags that keep showing up on the TikTok posts you see. Just remember that the information you can get from the FYP is “diluted” by TikTok’s algorithms; the videos are chosen, at least in part, to match your past browsing history.

Use the Search Function

This approach also requires some work, but it can be a great help if you’re looking for trending hashtags centered on a specific topic.

Tap the “Search” icon (a magnifying glass) on the home screen top menu, enter the topic you’re researching in the search bar, and click “Search” just to the right. When a page of results displays, scroll the menu above the results and find “Hashtags.” Tapping it will bring up a long list of the trending hashtags (along with the corresponding number of posts) that fit your subject.

Other Possibilities

Many successful influencers and creators use other approaches to find trending hashtags on TikTok, and they may work for you as well.

  • Find and follow successful creators who focus on the same content niche that you do, and watch their hashtag strategies. (We would never say “copy,” of course.)
  • Follow hashtags like #trendalert, which alert you to new trends and viral topics on the app.
  • Use third-party hashtag analytics tools that provide deep dives into trending TikTok topics and hashtags.

Before doing anything else, though, check out the app’s Creative Center. You may find that it provides all the help you need.
