Warning! NSFW content ahead!
We’ll leave the actual meaning of “rainbow kiss” for the end of this article. That will let readers get a general idea of what this TikTok trend is all about while avoiding the graphic details.
Content creators often use slang terms on the social media platform as teasers or for their shock value. Simply using the phrase we started with, “NSFW content ahead!” can convince people to click on a post or watch a video. Ordinary TikTok users may also include trending “vulgar” terms in their posts just to show that they’re “in” on the joke.
“Rainbow kiss” is one of those terms, and it was around long before TikTok.
The phrase first appeared in Urban Dictionary in 2003 after it was used regularly in Internet kink circles, although the term’s origin is unknown. Just like many other initially-obscure slang phrases, though, it stimulates curiosity among surfers who see it in mainstream venues, and it becomes a “thing.”
“Rainbow kiss” started trending on TikTok (and later, on other apps) in 2024, and people who might otherwise never have heard of it were introduced to the sexual practice. The term’s use has declined somewhat, but you may still see references to it in TikTok posts and comments, particularly if you regularly watch sexually-tinged content on the platform.
OK, ready for the definition? Reminder: this is explicit language, so turn back now if you’re sensitive. You won’t be able to unsee it later.
Defining a Rainbow Kiss
First, a disclaimer. There’s no definitive proof that anyone has ever tried this; it may just be an urban myth. Once it started trending on social media, though, it’s a good bet that at least a few people gave it a go.
A “rainbow” kiss occurs after a heterosexual couple engages in mutual oral sex while the woman is menstruating. After the man ejaculates, the partners then kiss and allow all of their bodily fluids to mix.
(Why “rainbow?” Imagine the colors of those fluids and you’ll get it. We told you it was graphic.)
Sex educators call rainbow kisses a “next-level” sexual activity that has the potential to transmit infections or sexual diseases. It’s certainly not something they recommend.
What’s most important to remember, though, is that the term is almost always used as online click-bait, not as a description of a common sex act.
