What Is A TikTok Bio, And Where Do You Find It?

3 min read

Many people who spend time on TikTok only want to watch funny or cute videos. They don’t care who uploaded them.

However, if you have any interest in getting to know a content creator a little bit better, or if you want to see if a controversial TikTok post was produced by someone you should trust, their bio (short for biography) is the best resource you can find.

TikTok users have full control over their bio, which is in the middle of their TikTok profile page and visible to anyone who visits the page. Many create their bio as soon as they get a TikTok account, while others wait until they’re comfortable on the social media platform before deciding what to include. Either way, you can change your bio as often as you’d like.

A TikTok bio lets you tell everyone else on the app (or at least, those who are interested) whatever you want them to know about you. Your background, interests, occupation, fun facts about your life — it’s all up to you what to include and how much you want to share with other TikTok users.

Influencers and content creators often use their bios to highlight their content niche and/or what they want to achieve on TikTok. People who’d like to get to know other like-minded users might go in-depth about their hobbies or personal life. Businesses can share information on their brand or products. The bio is essentially where you can “sell yourself” to visitors.

Finding the Bio on a TikTok Profile

This is an easy one.

If you’re watching a TikTok video and want to know more about the creator, just tap on their TikTok username. You’ll be taken to their profile page, where you’ll see the bio underneath the buttons that say “Edit profile” and “Share profile” and above their content grid. If you’d like to see what they look like (or how they portray themselves), their profile pic is above their username.

If you know the username of someone whose bio you’d like to check out, you can use the TikTok search function to look for them. When they appear in the results, tapping the entry will bring you directly to their profile and bio.

How To Create a TikTok Bio

If you’ve been on the app for a while, you may not even remember setting up your bio when you joined. If you look at your profile page and see text about yourself above the content grid, you simply have to tap “Edit profile” to make any necessary changes.

If you initially skipped the option to set up your profile, you can create it at any time. Click the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of your home screen, and then tap “Edit profile” (it may say “Create profile” instead) in the middle of your profile page. Look on the menu for “Bio,” click the link, and you’ll be able to type in your information.

You’re only allowed 80 characters for a bio, including any mentions or links you include, so choose your words carefully. But unless you want to stay virtually anonymous on TikTok, setting up your bio is one of the first steps you should take to let visitors know who you are, why they should watch your content, and why they should follow you.
