What Is The TikTok Creator Fund, And How Do You Join?

First things first: The TikTok Creator Fund doesn’t exist anymore. It was changed to the somewhat similar TikTok Creativity Program in 2023, and it’s now known as the TikTok Creator Rewards Program.

The goal of these programs has always been the same. They allow popular content creators to earn money in return for the work they do producing high-quality TikTok videos.

The Creator Fund was introduced in 2020 to provide monetary rewards to TikTok users who regularly posted content that received very high levels of engagement. Many participants weren’t happy with several elements of the Fund, though, particularly what they felt were very low payouts.

In 2023, the social media platform discontinued the Creator Fund and replaced it with a beta version of what it called the Creativity Program, which offered substantially bigger rewards and modified other aspects of the Creator Fund. For example, users are now eligible for larger payouts for longer TikTok content.

Once the new program was fully rolled out, it was renamed the Creator Rewards Program and made available to content creators in many parts of the world.

Not everyone in those areas can join the program, though.

How To Join the TikTok Creator Rewards Program

It’s possible to make very good money from the Creator Rewards program. However, there are quite a few eligibility requirements, all designed to restrict the program to legitimately popular TikTok content creators and influencers.

  1. Creators must be at least 18.
  2. Creators must have at least 10,000 legitimate followers, none created with bots or other methods that violate TikTok’s terms and conditions.
  3. Videos posted by the creator must have received at least 100,000 views in the past 30 days.
  4. Creators must have a personal TikTok account (not a business account) that’s in good standing without any Community Standards violations.
  5. Creators must be located in nations eligible for the program, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, or Brazil (more countries are added regularly).

Additionally, only videos of 60 seconds or longer qualify for rewards under the program.

To apply to the Creator Rewards Program, tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines at the top right of the screen) on your TikTok profile page, select “TikTok Studio” from the popup, and tap “Creator Rewards Program” at the bottom. You’ll have to fill out an application form; you’ll be asked about your account, the type of content you produce, and the audiences you receive.

It can take days or weeks for your application to be reviewed, after which you’ll receive either a decision or a request for further information. Once you’re accepted, you’re eligible for payouts from the program.

What Does the Creator Rewards Program Pay?

Payouts aren’t fixed amounts, and they’re not revenue sharing.

They’re determined by a combination of factors including the originality and quality of your content, how long your viewers watch your videos and how frequently they engage (measured by likes, comments, and shares), and the value of your videos’ topics to TikTok advertisers.

However, the rewards for high-quality and highly-engaging content in popular niches can be impressive. Anecdotal reports say that creators can average $4 to $8 for every 1,000 views they receive, with some influencers earning $1,000 or more for every million views. That contrasts dramatically with the old Creator Fund payouts, which averaged 20¢ to 40¢ per 1,000 views.

If you don’t qualify for the Creator Rewards program, don’t panic. While you’re working to build your TikTok follower base and audiences, you can check out other opportunities to monetize your account, like the TikTok affiliate program and the app’s Creator Marketplace.

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think

TikTok’s terms and conditions and Community Standards prohibit content that includes nudity (or implied nudity), sexually suggestive or explicit material, and non-consensual intimate imagery.
