When You Run A TikTok Live, Can You Flip The Camera?

2 min read

If you’re shooting a video or photo on your phone, you can easily switch between the front and back camera by hitting the “Flip” icon on the screen.

If you’re recording a TikTok video in the app, the process of changing cameras is just as easy.

But what if you’re hosting a TikTok Live stream? Are you allowed to switch from the front camera to the back one, or vice versa?

Of course. And as you’d probably expect, the programmers and developers at the social media platform have made it an extremely simple process.

How To Flip the Camera on TikTok Live

It’s important to make your TikTok Live sessions as interesting, engaging, and fun as possible. At any one time, millions of people are watching streams on the service, and they can simply scroll to a different Live show whenever they get bored.

Unless an influencer or TikTok content creator is an exceptionally captivating personality, a stream showing nothing more than a talking head is a prescription for disaster. Action, props, and other visually stimulating material are a must for those who want to host a Live show — and the first step is being able to flip the phone’s camera to make the feed more interesting.

Here’s how it’s done.

  1. If you’re running a TikTok Live stream, you’ll see the“Enhance” icon in the bottom menu on your screen. Tap the icon.
  2. Find and click the “Flip camera” icon toward the bottom of the popup menu.

That’s a good start; it lets you talk about what you’re seeing and then flip the camera to show what you’re describing. That’s not all you can do to energize your Live session, though.

For example, you can show views from both cameras at once. Before tapping the button to go live, tap the “Dual” icon. You’ll be able to open the second camera in either a rectangle or a circle, resize it or move it around the screen, or switch the views from the front and back camera by double-tapping on the screen. Hitting “Go Live” starts the dual-camera session.

Want to get fancier? How about automatically switching camera views periodically? When you’re live, click the two-camera icon in the right-hand menu. You’ll see the “Auto-switch” panel, where you can select the video sources and type of display you want (e.g., 2 Views or 3 Views), tap “Start Auto-switch,” and give your viewers a fascinating video show.

Play around a little more, and you’ll find that you’re able to create TikTok Live streams that will keep TikTok users engaged and happy as long as you’re broadcasting.
