Why You Might Not Be Able To Pin A TikTok Comment

Pinning a particularly important comment on a TikTok video can be extremely helpful both for the content creator and viewers.

Pinned comments stay at the top of the top of a post’s comment section, no matter how many other TikTok users contribute to the discussion. These are just some of the many functions they can serve:

  • Adding crucial context or extra information about the TikTok content
  • Providing links to additional resources dealing with the video’s topic
  • Answering frequently asked questions
  • Asking viewers for specific types of input
  • Boosting the creator’s TikTok profile
  • Stimulating engagement with a provocative follow-up question
  • Promoting other posts the creator has uploaded
  • Spotlighting a particularly interesting response

The problem isn’t common on the social media platform, but being unable to pin a TikTok comment can be extremely frustrating if you have any of those goals in mind.

What can cause the issue? One explanation stands out.

You Might Not Be Allowed to Pin a Comment

The most common problem is simple: you don’t understand how the feature works. Some TikTok users look for the “pin” option after contributing a comment they think is particularly important or noteworthy. They can’t find it, though, for one simple reason:

Only the user who created a TikTok post can pin comments on it. If you’ve just watched a video and want to pin your comment, you’re out of luck.

The best way for a surfer to have their comment pinned is to advance the conversation by adding something exceptionally insightful, unusual, or extremely valuable. If the creator agrees, they might decide to pin the comment.

If you are the original poster, though, several other reasons could explain the problem you’re having. One is most likely.

Your TikTok Account Settings May Be Wrong

It’s possible that you turned off comments before or after you posted your video.

Go to your post and tap the three-dot icon on the right-hand menu. Choose “Privacy settings” on the bottom row of icons on the popup window, and then make sure “Allow comments” is toggled “on.” You can also change the settings by your TikTok profile menu and choosing “Settings and privacy” > “Activity center” > “Manage comments permission.”

You should now be able to pin a comment.

Other Issues That Can Prevent Pinning Comments

If you still can’t diagnose the problem, consider these possibilities:

  • Not all TikTok features have been rolled out to all regions of the world. Pinning comments may not be possible where you live.
  • Some features won’t work properly if you’re having app or connection problems. A poor connection, not enough storage space, an outdated app version, or a simple glitch may be preventing you from pinning a comment. Try rebooting your app or phone, clearing the app’s cache, double-checking your Internet connection, or upgrading to the latest app version.
  • TikTok occasionally experiences tech glitches. Ask a friend who’s on the app if they’re having the same problem, or just wait a few minutes and try again. The functionality may quickly be restored.

How Do You Pin a Comment?

Many TikTok users never even think to pin comments on their videos. They should, for the reasons we’ve listed at the start, and it’s very easy to do.

  1. Find the video you want to manage on your content grid (it’s in the middle of your TikTok profile page) and open it full screen.
  2. Open the comments and find the one you want to pin.
  3. Press and hold on the comment you want to pin, and choose “Pin comment” from the popup that appears.
  4. If you want to unpin a comment you’ve previously pinned, use the same process.

Pinning comments is simple and fast, and you’ll be glad you’ve taken advantage of the feature. Give it a try!
