TikTok soared to popularity in the late 2010s — and remains immensely popular today — primarily because of the short and entertaining videos that most TikTok users post. Most people don’t think of the social media platform as somewhere they can show off great pictures, but it’s simple to put your photographic skills on display on your TikTok account.
You can show off multiple photos as well as single ones, and the app gives you several options for doing it. Let’s learn more.
Posting a Photo on TikTok
You’ve probably noticed that when you tap the (+) icon to make a video, the Creator screen defaults to “Photo” mode. And as you might guess, that’s the starting point for using a picture as a TikTok post. Most people using this mode just tap the record button to take a photo with their phone, and then click “Next” to post it.
However, you can also choose any photo that’s on your phone or device to post.
Click the “Upload” icon (on many app versions, it shows a picture from your camera reel) to the right of the big white record button. A page showing thumbnails of the content on your phone will open; click “Photos” at the top of the page, and you’ll see the pictures you can choose from. Pick the picture you want to use as a TikTok post, tap “Next,” and you’re good to go.
But what if you want to show off more than one picture?
Multiple Options for Posting Multiple Photos
The latest versions of TikTok give you several ways to create a captivating post with more than one photo.
Swipe Mode
We’ve already described how to choose a photo to post to your TikTok feed. The process for adding more than one photo is similar.
Once you’ve opened the page of thumbnails and chosen “Photos,” make sure that “Select multiple” is checked at the bottom of the screen. Then choose as many photos as you’d like to include, in the order you’d like them to appear, by tapping the circle in their corners. You can use as many as 35. Tap “Next” and you’ll see the display of your multiple photos in swipe mode.
Each photo stays on the screen for a few seconds before the next one appears, as if you’d used your finger to swipe on the screen. The app will add music to your photo show, but you can change it by clicking the “x” next to the song title, tapping “Add sound,” and choosing a different one. The editing bar on the right of the screen lets you add other effects or filters if desired.
You’ll see a timeline of your chosen pictures toward the bottom of the screen, and you can change the order of the photos by dragging one of the thumbs to a different position. If you decide that you want to add more pictures, click the small (+) icon, and you’ll be taken back to the page of thumbnails where you can choose additional photos for your show.
When you’re satisfied, tap “Next” and finalize your post.
AutoCut Mode
This newer TikTok feature automatically edits your chosen photos into a slick video presentation complete with transitions and other bells and whistles.
Follow the procedure we’ve described above, but once you’ve picked all of the pictures to put into your photo display, tap “AutoCut” instead of “Next.” The app will take a few seconds to process the video and then show you a preview. As before, you can change the music the system has used; you can also choose from a large selection of templates for your display.
When you’re happy with the finished product, click “Next” to reach the “Posting” screen and share your photos with the world!
