It would be a shame to create the ultimate video on TikTok, see it go viral, and realize you should have posted the content to Instagram as well.
No problem. You can.
The only real question is whether you want your TikTok video to be watermarked with the app’s logo. Posting content with a watermark is a breeze, but it’s not necessarily desirable. Social media platforms like Instagram give watermarked videos a smaller audience because they’re promoting another app.
There are three ways to share TikTok content on the Gram, and two of them let you do it with versions that aren’t watermarked. Let’s look at the methods.
1. Simple: Posting a Watermarked TikTok Video to IG
It couldn’t be easier to share a TikTok post on Instagram (yours or someone else’s), although it will contain the TikTok logo.
- Open the app and find the video you want to share.
- Hit the “Share” icon (a sweeping right arrow) on the right side of the post.
- Tap the Instagram icon; it’s usually in the second row. TikTok will download the video and send you to your IG app, where you can share the content on your feed.
Remember: Not all TikTok content can be shared. If you’re trying to repost someone else’s video and can’t, they may have disabled reposting.
Also remember: You probably won’t get much traction on Instagram with a watermarked video. This is a great way to let your IG followers see the content, but using one of the next two options is smarter if you hope your video will go viral on the Gram.
2. More Work: Posting Your Video to Insta Without a Watermark
You have to plan in advance to use this approach. If you know you’re going to want to upload your video to both TikTok and Instagram:
- Open the app, hit the “+” to reach the “Create” page, and record your video.
- After you’ve finished your editing work in the app, choose the “Save” option on the right-hand edit menu.
- Choose “Post to save without watermark” from the popup that appears.
- That will post your video to TikTok AND save the unwatermarked post to your camera reel. You can then upload the unwatermarked video to Instagram or wherever else you choose.
The “Post to save without watermark” option only appears when you are editing your own video. It’s not available if you choose the “Save” option for someone else’s.
3. Most Work: Removing the Watermark in a Third-Party App
Numerous third-party tools can quickly remove the watermark from TikTok videos. There are free options like TikSave and SnapTik, and ones that have additional features but charge small monthly fees, like MusicallyDown.
Here’s what to do. Save a TikTok video by hitting the “Share” button and then tapping “Save video,” which will download the watermarked video to your camera reel. Upload it to the third-party app, follow the instructions, and you’ll have a “clean” version available for use.
It’s important to realize, though, that sharing someone else’s TikTok video outside of the app without their permission is — at the very least — not a nice thing to do. At worst, it’s potentially illegal. Use caution and act responsibly when editing out a watermark from TikTok content.
And if you’re thinking of removing the watermark on your own video with a third-party tool, why bother? The second method we’ve spelled out gives you a clean version of your video with a lot less hassle.
